Theives are lowlifes and they are everywhere. It may be wiser to leave nice stuff at home or keep it with you constantly.
shit happens all time.
If you are going to leave something unintended at a bar, then expect for it to be stolen, it sucks but it’s a reality.
Too bad we couldn’t set a bait jacket…laced with rat poison.
wow… they are pretty cool jackets. Is there a coat check at the Seahorse? I know it sucks to have shit stolen, but in a place surrounded by people who could potentially be intoxicated, leaving personal property laying around is never safe.
why the hell did you even NEED a jacket Friday night?
I was out in a shirt and it was plenty warm enough….
a fool and his crap are soon parted.
Someone I know once said ” I’d thought I had bought a cheap windbreaker but when I woke up the next day it was leather. It’s not always on purpose.
“pretty cool jacket”…i have no idea what skin covering the op is referring to
thieves are bad
If I saw it I would have probably stolen it… mostly because I am soooo freaking poor. That being said, it could have been a drunken mistake. lol. Next time… Coat check!
Yeah it fits pretty good.
I trust the coat check people even less, if they give your jacket to someone else, keep it for themselves or whatever not only do you lose your coat but you get thrown out of the bar for making accusations. Downtown Halifax-always bring a coat you wouldn’t mind losing.
I love it when people lose a $300 raincoat. Or was it a “soft shell”? There’s your answer, zZz. He’s one of those guys that wear mountaineering gear to everywhere they go. It doesn’t matter whether or not it’s +40 out, they’ve gotta wear it, because you never know when you’ll get the urge to climb Kilimanjaro, or backpack to through the tundra. The world’s their climbing gym, so you gotta look the part.
This guy probably masturbates in a dark corner every day to the newest MEC catalogue.
good one doc…maybe citadel hill is his everest
This is why I won’t wear my new leather jacket when I go out drinking
so you buy a new leather jacket to be seen in but you leave it at home in fear of having it stolen. That’s exactly how FUCKED the HRM is.
indeed… and holy SHIT!
the VEST is 200 bucks… that means it’s $50 a sleeve.
I don’t know about you, but the last 3 jackets I’ve bought over the past few years haven’t totaled to $200.
you want a status symbol?
here’s your status, you’re a douche for leaving a $300 jacket anywhere but on your back.
Don’t get me wrong, I wear it when I leave my house to go to work, run errands, or go for coffee, ect…
But if I’m going to a bar I’ll leave it at home, I already lost one jacket, and it was a cheap $10 thing I got from the thrift store. I don’t want to imagine how fast a $300 leather coat will ‘vanish’
Oh, and I didn’t buy said leather coat for myself, it was a gift
“indeed… and holy SHIT!
the VEST is 200 bucks… that means it’s $50 a sleeve.
I don’t know about you, but the last 3 jackets I’ve bought over the past few years haven’t totaled to $200″
You make $300 sound like a million. Methinks it’s time for a career change. Google “disposable income” for more info.
why for hali? just because we don’t want/need to spend piles o cash to be clothed
Hali, $300 is a LOT of money to spend on a single article of clothing… Mind you, that doesn’t stop me from letting people spend that on me lol
$300 shouldn’t be a problem for a decent quality winter coat. Really though. I’m not talking about students obviously, but to be able to put aside $300 for a quality winter coat, especially living in NS (have you heard about our weather?) shouldn’t be a major issue.
“Hali, $300 is a LOT of money to spend on a single article of clothing”
It’s a winter jacket, not a t-shirt.
Just because people are not students does not mean they have money. I have never had the money to spend 300 bucks on any one thing in my LIFE. If they can afford a 300 dollar coat I say go buy another one and quit the complaining. Maybe someone who needed it has it now and you can take comfort that your money went towards helping someone less fortunate than you.
“If they can afford a 300 dollar coat I say go buy another one and quit the complaining. Maybe someone who needed it has it now and you can take comfort that your money went towards helping someone less fortunate than you.”
That is one of the most retarded things I have EVER read.
That is all.
Why? Because you think poor people are funny? Or because you think rich people deserve entitlement? Get with the times too… saying “retarded” isn’t cool anymore. It is actually offensive and derogatory to a lot of people.
Hali, aren’t you like 15 years old?
Yup, you are (I found the comment where you said your age)
So of course $300 doesn’t seem like much to Hali, he doesn’t have to worry about working for his money, paying rent, getting groceries, paying bills, ect
I resent the comment made by Oceanlady who said thieves are lowlives… I remember back in the day when I was really poor, like I either had a roof over my head or lived on the streets and made enough money to eat. I would totally steal a chicken from superstore if I needed to. Thieves are not lowlives… it’s mostly a problem created by society itself including Oceanlady!!! and of course the government.
I’m not 15 you idiot. LOL
Look at the context of that post (great detective work btw)
I was criticizing a poster’s inability to form a sentence without using rambling curse words. To further explain (because I clearly need to), I was implying that he sounded like a 15yr old in all of his glory hiding behind a keyboard.
What else ya got? I say that $300 is not a lot to spend on a winter jacket because it isn’t. Do you really think companies would price their items so no one can afford it? That would be bitch poster logic right there.
The prices reflect what people of average income should be able to spend. The world is not out to get you etc etc etc. Don’t blame your disposition on everyone else, it’s not going to solve the problem.
Imagine this scenario: Stash $100/pay cheque x 3 pay cheques = $300 in 6 weeks for you coat that will last all winter. Thank me later.
Unless you’re working dog shit entry level retail or fast food, this should be doable.
*facepalm*
yeah, (s)he’s not 15… though the attitude is about right for that age.
it’s not astronomical in price, you can find a decent winter coat for 60-80 bucks…
200-300 is just yearning to be swooned over … and eventually stolen.
Even a ridiculous Roots jacket is only a little over $100.
Brown eyes: How are theives a problem created by society?
How does that include me? I’ve been really poor too but never stole food.
How do you justify blaming society for your poverty and your decision to be a thief? Society is not responsible for an individual’s decisions. The government is not responsible for an individual’s decisions. The individual is.
In the case of the OP, thieves stole a nice jacket, hardly a poverty inspired theft. Free clothing and food are available at the food bank and the Salvation Army for those truly in need. Poverty is not an excuse for theft.
oh, and thanks for the budget lesson you twat.
why don’t we just save $200 a paycheque and get one of those fucking goose jackets?
or why stop there, it’s soooooper easy to save, just save $300 a paycheque and get a nice hugo boss wool coat.
simple.
fucking moron
Hali is just plain ignorant to think that everyone is financially well off if they have a job.
I agree with you zzz, his attitude IS about right for that age and obviously doesn’t have a family to support or experienced any real hardships by the way his snobbery insists 300 bucks is cheap for a coat.
How about we agree to disagree, you can spend your $300 on a winter jacket which could get stolen… Wait, that doesn’t happen, does it???
Now I’ll spend less than $100 (my winter jacket cost me $75) and it doesn’t look great, but it keeps me warm and I’m goin on 3 years with it; I’m bettin it’s got another year or two left
Problem Solved 😀
“Do you really think companies would price their items so no one can afford it? That would be bitch poster logic right there.
The prices reflect what people of average income should be able to spend. “
wow…. just wow.
I had to read that gem of logic over again to really grasp how idiotic is is….
I’ll just order this fish clip from tiffany’s… it’s only $32 000… that’s in line with the average person should be spending on a fish clip… why not.
think I’ll pick up a rolex while I’m at it. priced for the average joe…
it’s fucking designer shit that ISN’T priced for the average income you moistened bint.
You are lucky you were never in the position where you felt like you didn’t need to steal food to survive. LUCKY! I never chose to be a thief and I wouldn’t qualify me as one because I stole a cooked chicken once after not being able to scrounge food up for myself in I think it was 4 or 5 days. “The rich get richer and the poor stay poor” Have you never heard that quote? Did you go to school? They teach you all about how the government and taxes and large companies continue to suppress the poor in order for the rich to get even more rich. There are lots of programs and benefits you can get from the government to help but there is also a lot of requirements to fit into the categories making it hard for some people the get any help what so ever. If you don’t have any education maybe you could take a lesson the disney’s aladdin (excuse the irony – lol) He stole a loaf of bread so he could have something in his stomach only when he got caught they wanted to cut his hand off! You tell me how that helps to stop thieves who just want to survive when the problem isn’t even being addressed. They are just punishing him.
zzz… totally on board with your last post. When I read that quote my jaw just dropped. That like saying companies don’t exist to make money.
http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/03/11…
Tidbit of info to add… clothes have a 70 to 90 percent mark up.
Not to add fuel to the fire but an Arc’Teryx shell is not 300$ it’s about $675+tax. I’d be pissed too but the Seahorse is not the intended habitat of a top end hard shell mountaineering jacket. Maybe with it’s next user it will actually make it to the mountains. BS on the poor stories browneyes, this isn’t Dickens’s London or ‘Aladin’. Being poor in Canada is more about lifestyle choices and attitude than misfortune and oppresion. Plenty of immigrants and refuggees arrive here with less than you had and no english and do very well for themselves. How?
doubtful. I call BS on you for obvious reasons. If you think there is not poor people being oppressed in canada you need to open your eyes.
doubtful, yes some people do fine but that doesn’t mean people still don’t struggle with poverty.
I do actually sympathize with the fact that something you worked hard to own was stolen but I agree with some of the other posters that if you do have such a prized possession a little more care is in order.

THe poor people I know are poor, because they choose to be.
They’ve made bad decissions in the past (dropped out of school, went to jail, are into drugs or alcohol etc) So not a problem I care about, or care to waste my time on those who bring it on themselves. But old people who are being driven into the poorhouse by rising taxes, rising costs for everything & an old age pension that can barely keep a person alive now, who has no other income, when everything is getting more & more expensive. Then there’s mentally challenged people who don’t have a clue or only half a clue on the streets, these ‘poor’ people are in need of a hell of a lot help those that love milking the system…the E.I. players…work until they have enough time in for a claim, the welfare abusers. F^(& them all !
Students might be poor for awhile, but they work their way out of it. I know I did, I know many others I work with who have as well.
Not all poor people are poor because they choose to be. That is an absurd statement. I can understand that that is the only thing you yourself have experienced but people please!!!!!!!!… I urge you to look at both sides of the coin. Some people need the welfare, some people abuse it. Some people make poor choices and are poor, some people make the best choice they can make and are still poor. You can’t classify all poor people into one category just like you can’t classify all black people or all rich people or all jew people into one category. Geez man.
You actually work for a living, even with a minimum wage job you can get ahead.
I know waitstaff, supermarket employees, minimum wage earners who own a car. Who have learned to save & spend wisely & know what ‘budget’ means & how to stick to it.
Most people who are poor are often there because they’re F^(#ing LAZY ! they want the quick get rich plan. As imentioned, not all but many & i for one care more about the needs of our elderly & our mentally RETARDED* than the losers who play the system.
* screw the politically correct Mentally Retarded is good enough for me, this ever changing title from handicapped, to challenged to, ‘special’ is all Bullshit IMO.
Like I said… there are two sides of the coin. Choosing to only see one side is part of the problem.
Browneyes, I don’t deny the presence of the poor nor the fact that they struggle. What I do deny is that everyone else is to blame or that being poor is abnormal, unprecedented or necessarily perpetual. We are fortunate to live in a peaceful country with free education, free healthcare, lots of support and many opportunities. Many of these are possible only because those who work hard to earn incomes pay taxes. If hundreds of thousands can advance themselves with these opportunities remaining poor is unfortunate but not necessarily the fault of the system, the wealthy or the government. You haven’t answered my question regarding how people who arrive with the clothes on their backs and no French/English can do better than multigenerational poor Canadians? Who is really to blame?
I understand completely what you are saying but like I said that does not count for everyone. To your question there could be a number of reasons, physical or mental illnesses, kindness of strangers, people who are just plain smarter than others… I’ll say it again.. to every situation and people you classify into groups… there are 2 sides to the coin.
And for the record I’m all for supporting children, the elderly and retarded. Everyone else gets a mirror, the patch and a greyhound ticket, to help them out of the cycle.
I would also add that using the term oppression in Canada does a disservice to the truely oppressed in the world. There is no population more worse off than the first nations in Canada and I doubt even they consider themselves oppressed.
It doesn’t matter what country you live in. These problems exist all over the world.
I steal but it’s societys fault…wow now I can die happy because I’ve heard it all….
hey mr. blue did ya get your beep?
doubtful… I still don’t think it’s a good reason, but workforce diversity is a small reason.
still, livable wages can be had…. but $600 jackets are fucking ridiculous.
that’s rent in places round these parts. you’re wearing a months worth of shelter.
Yeah zZz but think of it as an investment. If you can woo a young Ontarian trust funder from the King’s wardroom into matrimony with your Mountain man appeal, you’ll be set for life. 600$ will have been a small price. Now the OP has to start all over.
and if you find a $600 jacket sitting in the corner and pay nothing for it… it’s even more on your return. doesn’t make it right … or at all sane.
Browneyes, poverty exists everywhere, oppression does not. By crying wolf and blaming others we ignore potential useful solutions that may actually help people in poverty. As they are currently made to feel blameless and victimized, and we support them in their stagnancy, we’ve created a sense of entitlement and deserving does nothing to help break the cycle. The whole give someone a fish/ teach a person to fish argument. Well in Canada we’ve given away a lot of fish dinners, and you know what we’ve gotten? A lot of people waiting for their next meal. How’s that helping them?
browneyes: How blithely you state – “You are lucky you were never in the position where you felt like you didn’t need to steal food to survive. LUCKY! I never chose to be a thief and I wouldn’t qualify me as one because I stole a cooked chicken once after not being able to scrounge food up for myself in I think it was 4 or 5 days.”
browneyes, you actually have no idea of my life’s experiences that include regualrly going without food for several days at a time so that my child could eat, a circumstance assisted by her deadbeat dad but that is entirely another bitch. So I know what it is like to suffer without food. How LUCKY is that? Never once did I consider thievery an option. It is not the store’s problem that I was down on my luck. There are charitable organizations that will help those in need. Poverty inspired me to improve myself not become a thief which in my mind would be a step backward not forward. If you’d been caught, the blemish on your record might bhave affected your interests later in life. Not worth it really.
My supplier is out of province, but assures me it will be in transit at the first possible opportunity. Thanks for the concern PG. I can understand accidental theft, but in this day and age, there are options for the needy that don’t include theft. Food banks etc. Here in Victoria, the weather is so mild that there isn’t an off-season for street people/panhandlers, they bum money 24/7/12/365. What chokes me is they all have dogs, if you can’t feed/support yourself why have another mouth to feed? Perhaps we should put them all on a plane and send them to NS where there are jobs in security companies, call centers, etc.
I’m starting to think Browneyes should be Browneye because they seem to be talking out their ass…
I guess you should have kept your legs closed then. Like judge Judy says “You picked him” Lol. That is worse than thievery in my opinion. I’m done.
More: the disabled unemployable are not poor because they choose to be. They are poor because having physical or mental challenges doesn’t pay well. It is a life long position with no chance of advancement. Obviously the only poor people you know are able-bodied people who choose to do nothing but poverty encompasses a much larger demographic of people some of whom have no other choice.
If you read my previous posts Oceanlady you would know I made that point myself “They are poor because having physical or mental challenges doesn’t pay well. It is a life long position with no chance of advancement.” Not the exact phrase obviously but my sister suffers from a mental illness and my Dad has a physical disability, so I’d be swallowing those words back down.
Yeah, it was MY fault the deadbeat dad chose to ignore his parental responsibilities. I’m sure I could have predicted THAT before we chose to have a child! Where do you come up with this stuff? All you’d expect, I guess, from someone who watches Judge Judy! Ironic really! The thief is a fan of a TV court show. Provides quotes from it even. Too funny. Browneye indeed!
You knew what kind of man he was before you decided to have a child with him. The fact you CHOSE to do it anyway doesn’t exactly say much for your intelligence either. I was fortunate enough to rise above my poverty like a lot of other people who seemed to have done as well who are involved in this post, went to Kings and then law school. I think a judge with 30 or more years experience who has her own tv show knows a little more than both you and I, even counting my education.
Actually, before the child was conceived, there was nothing in his character to indicate he would be a deadbeat dad. It had nothing to do with intelligence lacking, or otherwise. He appeared to be a responsible, mature, thoughtful adult. Deadbeat dads aren’t always precictable, even if you like to think so. Some don’t reveal themselves to be such until confronted with the situation. The deadbeat dad was a minor inconvenience. Adversity is a challenge to be overcome and exceeded. Not having to deal with him for child support payments was a blessing not a hinderance. And worth every one of my hunger pains.
🙂
Believe me, anybody who buys Arcteryx stuff has more than disposable income. Their “soft shells” (that’s a liner to you and me) run in the $300 range. They’re not poor. Trust me this is less about getting a decent jacket (because you can get a similar jacket for close to $200 less at varying retailers), but more about a dumbass student who had their jacket stolen, and they’ll need to call daddy to get a new one.
Maybe the OP didn’t buy the jacket themselves… It could’ve been a gift?
This is true MS…. could have been a Christmas gift even. It’s certainly not beyond parents to give such gifts.
For once Oceanlady and I see eye to eye. Thieves are the scourge of the earth no matter which country you live in. Hungry scourge is still scourge but browneyes brings light to an interesting fact… increase poverty and you increase crime…. just… like… that. To be truthful I had NO GUILT buying illegal cigarettes. The alternative is to get dry-fucked in the ass by government so screw government! What else is there to do? Quit smoking? Yeah, forget that too because I don’t pay into the system to have my choices limited nor dictated to me… and this is how scourge is born in the cream of the world, thinking poverty is someone else’s fault… and maybe it is.
It’s hunger pangs, not pains. Just thought you’d like to know. (-:
