I’m an exchange student from New Zealand and on my first night in Halifax I went to the supermarket to grab some dinner. As a tourist, I was excited by the lobsters and when I saw a giant helium lobster balloon I thought I must have it! The weight holding it down said $1.29 which I thought was an absolute bargain but at the check out it turned out that was just the price of the weight, the balloon was actually $10. The friendly shop assistant said she would put it back for me but came back a minute later and said the manager said it was a gift for me and welcomed me to Halifax. So a shout out to Joseph Howe Superstore for the best welcome ever! —Kiwi girl

  1. Have you ever heard of an Australian kiss?

  2. From one kiwi in Halifax to Another. Welcome. The people here are pretty sweet. Closest thing to home you will find. Good luck with everything while you are here
