I for one am currently dismayed and angered by the utter lack of responsibility that people in Canada seem to accept for there own actions. In what seems to be a never ending series of liability lawsuits, another plaintiff in New Brunswick was awarded damages for injuries incurred while jumping off a cottage dock into SHALLOW water. The ruling went on to state the owners in question should have installed appropriate gates or other safety features to provide the “reasonable safety” of their guest.

When are we going to WAKE UP to this responsibility deficit affecting Canada!! These decisions are continually discrediting any form of risk management among the populace and reinforcing the idea that one is NOT responsible for ones OWN actions. Was it a terrible mistake, most certainly yes, but was it a dereliction of duty on part of the homeowners, I for one think not! Christ, itÂ’s getting to the point where no-one is going to invite anyone to their homes, for the fear of being sued!! Enough is enough already, use your head, be rational and take reasonable risks, and if you choose to partake in risky behavior live by your OWN choices and stop shifting the responsibility where it doesnÂ’t belong.

  1. pays to get a good lawyer then, does it?
Where the hell is THE HAMMER?
He doesn’t let that shit go down…..

seriously though, was there even a sign?
Or was it not an intended spot to jump off?
A dock seems like a decent place to shallow-dive in my opinion.

  2. I couldn’t agree more!!
People these days don’t want to take responsibility for their own actions, because it’s so much easier to blame someone else. Idiots like this guy you mentioned above should have “I Will Sue You” tattooed on their forehead, so everyone will know not to let them on their property.

  3. While I agree with the general sentiment behind your post, I would just like to point out that failure to accept responsibility for one’s actions is not a problem specific to the people of Canada. Rather, an unfortunately common global state of mind that has led to the state of affairs (economic, environmental, etc.) that we currently find ourselves in.

  4. This OP gets a standing ovation in my mind. They need to make a general common sense law that protects people from this kind of shit…yes i do realize that isn’t a practical solution…but seriously it’s bullshit…I said it before and I’ll say it again… I WANT THE CANDY BACK AT THE CHRISTMAS PARADE you fucking twit who sued for having her son get hit in the head for a piece of candy…I mean come on..i have a really hard time believing that a small piece of candy being lightly tossed, and yes they were getting lightly tossed cause i was there…have to get four stitches or what ever the fuck it was…I know this happened a while a go now but im still bitter..And I’m sick of never being able do do anything like say…sledding down a bomb hill during winter, cause all the hills are located in places where you can sue if you hurt your self….grr…kinda ranted a little there but the bitch struck a nerve.

  5. Whatever to the Red Cross warning, “Never dive or jump into water you don’t know”? Common sense loses once again.

  6. Well this is stupid lol. Maybe I should go stick my hand in my lawnmower with the dead man bar tied down with some string and sue Craftsman for my injuries- Seriously what is wrong with people these days. Kinda like people who stick their fingers in a snowblower to declog it then get pissed off and decide the snowblower didn’t have enough WARNING THIS IS A TOOL NOT A TOY stickers on it. Or a weedwacker that flys a rock and takes your eye out. wear safety goggles! Personal Responsibility!

  7. If a robber can sue the the bank employees for beating the crap outta him then I suppose anything is possible.

  8. Crap like this is why we have warning labels that insult our intelligence. Every time I see a weird warning label, I just assume it’s there because someone sued over it.

  9. do not point at eye, do not ingest orally, may cause drowsiness, hot beverage, don’t gamble your rent money away, don’t drink and drive, wear a condom, wear a helmet i could go on but like the education system here they are speaking to the lowest common denominator
