To the bipolar woman I work with: I sympathize with your unfortunate situation but please, please, please take your medication. You’re making it a very unpleasant environment. Hell, you make me feel bipolar when I go from being happy at work to living in hell when you come in. Now I know why everyone in your department quit… I might be next. And also, I wish the owner/ manager would stop threatening to fire you and find a replacement so they can actually get it over with. And on a petty note, your music sucks and kills my peace. —Since When Was Katy Perry Light Rock?

  1. maybe if she stays off the meds long enough she’s take a walk in the woods…
I seem to notice an uptick in crazy people getting lost in the woods lately.

and then instead of dealing with bi-polar… you’d be bi-winning!

  2. Bipolar is a bullshit scam invented by the pharmaceutical industry to make money. The DSM is nothing but a great book of fiction. No mental illness can be diagnosed as there are no diagnostic or biolological tests to prove this or any mental disorder. Furthermore, the psychotropic and supposed mood “stablizing” medications are proven to CAUSE mania and depression–the very symptoms psyciatrists claim to be treating. Sounds like this woman is doing her best with an office full of bullies ganging up on her. All I could get outta your bitch is you want her fired because you don’t like her music? Perhaps you need a mood stabilizer…may I suggest liquid lobodomy?

  3. oh great… now we’ll have to read a 14 page synopsis from the douche residing in quebecerville. Hope you’re happy you_fool.

screw the meds… hold out for the full blown lobotomy

  4. I said it before, and I’ll say it again…no fool is a pretty smart gal… you nailed this one. Everything you said about psychotropic drugs, and there being no actual tests to diagnose “mental disorders” is 100% correct. They fuck people up way more than help them.

  5. Right fucking on, no fool – just like ADD, ADHD and all that other horseshit that sells pills to poor unsuspecting fuckers who believe the utter crap that is psychiatry today.

  6. i worked with this type of woman years ago. they made every day you were near them, seem like hell. the best advice i could give is, try to put the blinders on, and not pay any heed to her.

  7. Fuck sakes … so if you have back pain but no one can prove it … does that mean it doesn’t really exist? Let me guess … the medical community invented disorders of the brain at the same time they decided to withhold the cure for cancer.

  8. These drugs fuck people up way more than they help them if they are on the wrong ones, but benefit them immensely if they can find the ones that work for them (which is one of the hardest things to accomplish for some people). What works for some, doesn’t work for others, and vice versa… so of course people are going to get messed up going through several that don’t work, but it can be worth it in the end. If bipolar doesn’t exist… then I’ve met a few people who go back and forth between extreme unnatural happiness to severe depression with no apparent cause their whole lives… so if you don’t want to put a label on that extreme behavior then so be it, but when medication helps them with their moods and those around them as a result… I’d be glad to call it bipolar.

  9. And being someone who isn’t bipolar and doesn’t have to go through that, I could never say it’s a scam. Although I can’t know for sure, I think if I did have that kind of personality, I would like to believe there are medications to help me. It’s very easy for someone who doesn’t have to go through something to say it doesn’t exist, because you don’t understand it in the sense that you don’t experience it, and can never know how it feels to have the mind of another.

  10. I joked before but in hindsight, I’m wishing I hadn’t. I sincerely apologize if I may have offended anyone.
I would love for you nay-sayers to look into the faces of the many unlucky members of our military,(or police force, or other emergency services) who were called upon to do what they were trained to do over the years, witnessed unfathomable horrors, saw mankind at it’s absolute worst, had the very foundations of what they believed to be right and wrong completely annihilated, men and women in the prime of their lives physically and mentally, professionals in their careers with bright promising futures all, only to return as a broken shell of a human being and tell them that PTSD, bi-polar disorder, depression, etc is all just a crock of shit. Go ahead. Tell them that it’s all just a big sham fabricated by big pharma to sell pills. You tell the families of the many who got, (and continue to get), lost through the cracks, confused, forgotten, neglected, shamed, ridiculed, shunned, alienated, made to feel inferior, yoked with an unwarranted stigma to the point that they took their own lives to end their own private hell. You tell them that their loved ones couldn’t possibly have been sick (injured) because there is no way of proving a mental disorder. They just couldn’t cope. Go ahead and just dismiss everything they’ve gone through. Invalidate it all. “It’s all just a big fucking lie, right?” Pffft.
I have been honoured to meet, in person, some of the lucky few who recognized that they were injured. The ones who sought help, either on their own or through friends and family, before it was too late. The lucky ones who didn’t get lost in the shuffle. The ones who had the courage to come forward at the risk of having stigma thrown in their faces and possibly lose their careers. I met them and until they told me their horror stories, until they told me that, yes, I have been diagnosed and living with PTSD or depression for X number of years, I would have never believed them. They are now active, vibrant, productive members of society with hopes and dreams and plans, not despair and doom. Had it not been for their diagnosis and subsequent treatment, they wouldn’t be alive today and they, (and I), fully believe that. There is nothing you can quote to me that will change my point of view on this. I’ve witnessed it first hand.
So, you can take all your little conspiracy theories or your Dr. Phil/Oz/Oprah diagnoses, or whatever homeopathic trend of the week, or bullshit article you read in the rag at the check out line at the grocery store and stuff it.
There is no doubt there has been instances of mis or over diagnosis and I’m sure there are thousands of cases where people were given meds when perhaps they didn’t need them or were given the wrong ones or whatever. I’m not disputing this. I DO take exception to this blanket statement that no mental disorder can be diagnosed or proven to exist. That’s a load of horse shit.

  11. It’s not the sciences of psychiatry or pharmacology that’s the problem, it’s the dispensing of medication and the lack of proper monitoring and follow-up of the patients. As My Special Screen Name mentioned, sometimes it takes a few tries to find the exact correct dosage of the correct medication.
As well, who follows up on the patients after they come in for treatment? Do the patients take their medication properly? The facilitation of mental health treatment has been grossly underfunded in the past. Hopefully, we’ll start seeing some improvement as these illnesses become a little more high-profile.

  12. Thanks Kontee!

They say the mood swings of “Bipolar” are caused by a salt deficiency. That’s what lithium, the bipolar treatment of choice is – salt. But you take in too much and your liver goes toxic. Antipsychotics though are the worst, they fall under the same chemical family as pesticides – now that’s scary. The side effects are just incredible and almost all mental patients are put on them. There are no cures for these supposed mental illnesses – the shrinks even admit to that. Who’s to say your friends’ moods didn’t change due to improved sleep or environmental changes or the meds having a placebo affect. Lots of people get mood swings and they’re not labelled for life.

  13. Avasti no one is dismissing anybody or invalidating anyone’s work. But before these soldiers went to war, were they “sick” with a brain disease? No they weren’t or they wouldn’t have been accepted into the forces. Did they have an underlying mental disorder that they were born with or did they see some horrible shit and endure some serious stress. Anybody would become “sick” – or experience what normal people call Grief- after that. And before you blow up, I’m NOT saying anyone could do what they did. I’m not dishonoring those who have fought for our country in any way. I was in the clutches of psychiatry for 5 years and the meds nearly killed me. They are pure poison. Get the fucking facts.

  14. No_fool, I’m sincerely sorry that you had a bad experience but not everyone goes through the same. The medication that was prescribed for you was obviously the wrong medication or medication that wasn’t necessary – it was poison for YOU – and that is between you and your doctor. It’s no different than if you were prescribed the wrong heart meds. That could also kill you if it’s the wrong shit, but save someone else.

What frustrates me is this. When some have a bad experience or know of someone who has had a bad experience, disorders of the brain and the medications that are out there to treat them are all a sham/farce/money-grab/etc. This kind of attitude contributes to the problems faced by people with real issues – measurable or not; detectable by brain scan or not. Explaining a mental disorder is difficult enough without attitudes like this that only serve to reinforce discomfort. Who wants to talk about something (anything) when they feel they are being judged or not taken seriously by family, friends or joe public?

  15. Bi polar has varying degrees and types. You can merely have a bi polar episode that goes away on it’s own and later comes back, so is medication a good idea for less extreme cases? It is over prescribed in many unfortunate situations where someone has victimized you and you find yourself frequently obsessing (which is quite normal). Bi Polar symptoms can result from you actually just thinking about what happened and being thrown into a bad mood. People around you say “hey you have mood swings, you must be bi polar”. That’s where a lot of mis diagnosed cases can start. If the doctor isn’t thorough enough and you aren’t honest enough about what you’ve gone through you can end up dependent on meds just like any street drug.

Also there are too many paranoid parents who are terrified that their kids will “fail” and the second the marks slip mom(usually, ouch, might get in trouble for saying that;) might throw the kid in an ADHD test just after the kids favorite TV show and whatever sugar he or she ate resulting in the 10 year old who is already sick of school saying “why am I getting drag out for this shit” and well you see what can happen when the boredom of sitting at a desk for another test sets in.

IT SHOULD BE DIAGNOSED LATER IN LIFE.

  16. Well I was diagnosed with Bipolar with severe mania. I have been off meds and episode free for almost 4 years. When I first became “ill” I hadn’t slept in a whole week – because I had moved, started school & a new routine. I believe this was the problem. I was also on a crash diet and had lost a lot of weight. I was fine when I went into the hospital though just feeling funny due to lack of sleep. They could have given me a mild sedative and fed me and been kind to me. But instead they locked me in a room for 3 weeks and injected me with LOTS of psychotropic drugs. I believe it was the antipsychotic medication Zyprexa, that caused the dellusional thinking. Antipshycotics CAUSE mania – it has been reported. And Anti-depressants CAUSE depression! Go look it up.

Though I hadn’t slept, I was totally rational when I was admitted to hospital. However, after being drugged, I became cray cray, acting all funny. So they gave me more drugs. And I got more cray. The side effects came and with those came more drugs to combat the side effects. I was practically infertile, stopped menstuating for a year, gained a HUNDRED lbs (which thankfully most of it is off now), became “pre-diabetic”, Underactive Thyroid, major circulation problems, high blood pressure, I was seeing specialists for cardiovascular disease, etc. I was completely healthy before being admitted. Thank God my Lawyers were able to get me out of there. When my family doctor saw me after I had been discharged, he didn’t recognize me. He helped me detox and saved my life. I now have no health problems, thank you Jesus!

These drugs make normal human problems (grief, worry, stress) turn into psychosis, believe me. They make your situation much worse and can be the root of your psychosis, mania or depression, without you even knowing it!

  17. I don’t think stigma is as much of an issue as the pseudo-“science” of psychiatry and their fake cures for profit, poisoning the masses, lowering lifespans – it’s a form of genocide. The billion dollar industry of Psychiatry and its benefactors are responsible for the stigma. Pharma creating treatments which perpetuate the very symptoms they claim to be treating. Take it from a diagnosed nutter, I don’t give a fuck about stigma. It is their drugs, labels & oppression you should really be worried about – not stigma!

  18. no_fool, so because you were supposedly misdiagnosed and don’t have bipolar, it doesn’t exist and nobody has it?

  19. Well you believe what you want. I don’t believe in fairy tales, I need Scienticic proof. In my opinion, bipolar is bullshit. The drugs are a crock of shit too and cause the crazyiness. There was a common theme at the nut house, “if you’re not crazy when you get in, you’ll be crazy when you get out”. This form of Health “Care” is seriously fucked. And meaty, hopefully you’re never in the wrong place at the wrong time or get a label thrown at you for life and locked up. It could happen to any one at any time, i think ya betta knock on wood, asshole.

  20. No bitchface – foolish would be to not question “disorders” with no scientific diagnostic proof behind them, drugs that ruin lives and Psychiatric “doctors” that do more harm than good.

  21. If you want the facts, this is a great site

    http://www.cchrint.org/

Research shows long-term exposure to psychiatric drugs has proven to be far more dangerous than originally anticipated, and includes the threat of medication-induced obesity, diabetes, heart disease, irreversible abnormal movements, emotional and cognitive disability, and an overall deterioration in the patient’s clinical condition and quality of life.

  22. With 49 Million Americans on Psychiatric Drugs — Renowned Psychiatrist Issues Call for Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal
Note: According Medco Health 1 in 5 American adults are currently taking mind-altering psychiatric drugs such as antidepressants, antipsychotics and anti-anxiety drugs. International drug regulatory agencies have issued warnings that side effects including mania, psychosis, hallucinations, suicidal ideation, diabetes, heart attack, stroke and sudden death as well as severe withdrawal. For more information on documented drug side effects visit CCHR International’s psychiatric drug search engine

  23. Too many children under 10 on antipsychotics, why?$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and parent’s with no patient’s,some simply are bad parent’s ,or are babies themselves.
Now they’re saying SSRI’s can make you have alzheimer’s.
Sure some disorder’s are real…But why put a 9 year old on antipsychotics,Instead force the parent/parent’s into parenting courses.

  24. I have pain and I have depression.Afew years ago I was on Paxil and OxyContin.I weaned myself off of Paxil(I did it slowly),it was awful,I felt like I was going die.A few year’s later after loosing a lot of weight ,my pain wasn’t as bad, I slowly started to wein myself off oxicotin with no problem’s at all.

  25. Yes, it’s all in the name of money… they all have their fingers in the pot, the more drugs they push the more they pad their pockets. But, There are real cruisaders out there, actual doctors and psychiatrists, drug regulatory agencies, human rights organizations, all fighting to have these drugs recalled. They are also proposing a new model for mental healthcare that withdrawls patients off all these medications.

“These dangers, among others, have compelled Dr. Breggin to argue that “Nothing in the field of mental health will do more good and reduce more harm than encouraging withdrawal from psychiatric drugs.”

“A new model for a patient-centered collaborative team approach not only transforms drug withdrawal, but mental health treatment in general with its greater emphasis on the patient partnership and well-being,” states Dr. Breggin. “It ushers in a new era of patient and family-centered treatment where the goal is no longer a drug-induced holding pattern, but genuine physical and psychological recovery and growth.”

  26. Why do you think Mental Health Organizations are trying so feverently to remove “STIGMA” of mental illnesses? Because they want everyone to have a mental disorder and not be ashamed to talk about it! So they can sell more of their drugs and make another billion dollars this year!~
Oh by the way, if any of you are Gay, bisexual, Shop more than you can afford, don’t like winter, or get moody with PMS, YOU HAVE A MENTAL ILLNESS. There is a diagnosis in the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual (DSM) with your name on it!

  27. *shrug*

My quality of life is 10000000% better on Luvox. I’ve been on it for a long while and I’m taking the maximum dosage too. Fancy that.

And what’s funny is: my weight is going down, my performance at work is freaking awesome, I’m sleeping better than I ever have and I have more energy during the day, my type one diabetes is under better control than it’s ever been annnnnnnnnd I’m actually motivated and happy about life.

Oh and those OCD compulsions? 95% GONE.

Before Luvox I was a mess. I had been to therapy with a psychologist and I regularly see a psychiatrist who’s clinical philosophy is to not prescribe medication when it’s not necessary. I also see a naturopath who works with her patients to manage anxiety and depression disorders through natural methods, but agrees the luvox is great for me and I should stay on it. A NATUROPATH said that.

Perhaps I’ve been lucky in that every health care professional I’ve dealt with (from my GP, to my psychologist, psychiatrist and naturopathic doctor) doesn’t favour relying on medication for treatment, but they ALL agree in concert that I need something — probably for the rest of my life, and I’ve been through every anti depressant out there. So I fully 100% agree with the statement above (I can’t remember who said it) that being on the WRONG medication is detrimental. Being on the right one can mean the difference between actually not living in torment and being happy, emotionally stable, and physically healthier.

You’re entitled to your opinion, no fool, but if you want us to respect yours, perhaps respecting others would be a good start.

  28. Bipolar only exists when it benefits you right no_fool? Didn’t you say before you blamed a credit card debt on your bipolar, and because of that you didn’t have to pay for it?

  29. Sure, since I was forced to take these drugs which ruined my health for 5 years and I was unable to work. I was a fucking mess on those pills. I was on 20 different drugs! The shrinks are lucky I don’t sue their fucking arses off.

  30. OK so you were misdiagnosed, obviously. Doesn’t mean there aren’t others out there who aren’t misdiagnosed.

I highly doubt you’re the benchmark for every single person on this earth.

I’ll break it down into terms you can understand:

I fuck a guy and it’s the worst sex of my life.

Another chick fucks the same guy and it’s the best sex of her life.

    Different strokes for different folks.

    Get it?

  31. mmmmm, I find it very hard to live without my poison every day…
so do others that encounter me without it…

trust me… in my case, poison works…
and who really gives a shit if I die young because of it?

  32. zZz – I know a young lady like that. It took years to get the right dose of the right drugs, but without the drugs, she’d be in jail or dead.

  33. Sorry if I offended zZz.

When she went off, she attack anybody, freak-out insane attack. Big or small, it made no difference.
It took 2 big friggin cops to remove her from a situation once, she’s tiny less than 95lbs. If it wern’t for the drugs, eventually she would have attacked someone who wouldn’t have held back…

But the drugs work, she’s much better (still a bit wacky), and runs a small business.

  34. Hey Petty K
Do you eat whole grains & or wheat products ?
Did you know that 2 slices of whole wheat bread raises your sugar level higher & for longer than 2 tbls of any sucrose you can think of ?

I’ve recently read some stuff written by Dr Banting (yeah the guy who helped develope insulin) & he recommended no one with diabetes should consume more than 10 grams of wheat products a day & less would be better !
I mention this because a good friend who has recently went from type 2 to type 1 diabetes has been having medication adjustments & he eats whole wheat & wheat products at every meal ! I’ve given him a book I bought that is all about the problems associated with consumption of Wheat & whole grains, hoping to get him off the sugar roller coaster .

  35. “(sigh) no sense of humor:(“

We have a sense of humor, but it isn’t the same as yours as we aren’t serial killers…..you creepy mother fucker.

  36. Actually, I don’t eat any wheat or whole grains because they’re too hard on my system.

I’ve been following the insulin resistance diet. Your friend would likely do WONDERS on that eating plan (it’s not really a diet). You don’t eat any more than 30g of carbs in one two hour period and for every 15 grams of carbs you have to “link” it with 7g of protein. Veggies, apples and grapefruit are on the ‘free’ list and you can eat as much of that as you want during your meals. And unlike diets that advocate for protein, they recognize that you still need some carbs and advocate for eating lower fat foods (unlike atkins that says you should only eat 15g of carbs a day and should be eating high fat foods such as full fat cheeses and creams, etc…). It also says that artificial sweeteners such as splenda, aspertame, etc… confuse the body and cause a serge in insulin, which is what ends up storing fat. So you can only consume these sweeteners when you’re eating food.

I’ve been losing 3-4 pounds a week and I’ve gone from taking 25+ units of insulin with meals to 6.

The book also says that ‘brisk’ physical activity is best over aerobic activity to burn fat and that going for walks, house cleaning, taking the stairs, etc… is all you need (i.e.: you don’t have to work yourself to death at the gym).

Your friend would greatly benefit from reading this book: http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/Insuli…

Best part is, I’m never hungry and it’s pretty freaking simple to follow. The book was written by a weight loss doctor at the Mayo Clinic and she’s seen her patients with insulin resistance lose a ton of weight and KEEP IT OFF in the long run. If your friend has type 2, he has insulin resistance. (PS: what do you mean, he went from type 2 to type 1 — do you mean he was put on insulin? Even on insulin he’s technically still type 2 unless the disease has turned into an auto immune response with his body killing his own beta cells — so the insulin resistance is still there).

  37. Petty K , I’ll pass the info along, thanks.
Yeah , he has gone from diet control ( & I believe a pill(s) )to injections of insulin.

  38. Pretty Kitty.

We were hunter gatherers for far more time than grain farmers. I know dozens of people who have cut out bread and have way more energy.

  39. IT was a nobel goal to attemp to modify grain to get more yeild from the same acreage planted. THen giving it to the world…. the problem is in doing over 1000 genetic modifications to get a larger grain head, which caused the stalk to collapse under the weight, so they developed a shorter stalk, large head took many generations of change, modification& cross breeding & then they gave access to their results to every nation that wanted it.

Unfortunately there were no human tests & because of the amount changes, the relatively short time in human history of eating grain, we are seeing the results of this great experiment started in the 80’s of “eat more whole grains” cut out fatty meats…. now we have explosive growth in diabetes. A huge increase in crones and a host of other digestive problems. An explosion of obesity for both sexes ,of every race , covering every financial demographic !
How often did you hear, see people going to the gym ?
Exercising, running, trying to lose weight in the 1950’s or 60’s?
Now its everywhere & so is obesity.

You wanna lose weight & only do 1 thing to do so.
    Cut out Wheat Products.
No white flour, no whole wheat flour, NO WHOLE GRAINS & whole grain flour. Don’t take up the slack with corn, or ‘gluten free flours & you will lose weight. -period-
It starts off slow & it just continues to fall away !
Just remember that most of the grocery store will become inedible, your shopping will be confined to the dairy, meat, fresh produce , fish sections …. everything else snacks, crackers, soups, sauces, pasta’s, usually the whole bakery section & the entire premade meals, pizza, snacks becomes off limits.

Sure makes a trip to the grocery store quick though ~:)
