To whoever is smashing all the bus shelters I think your enthusiasm and persistence could be put to better use by smashing other things….like giant capitalist enterprises’ windows rather than those of a public service like our transit. Just an idea 🙂 —Thinker

Or, better yet, the bored, alienated Dazed & Confused australopitheci AND the politically aware Man-children of the Chomsky could grow the fuck up, wean themselves of the need to smash anything, get educated and carve out a semblance of a decent life by leaving others alone.
Novel idea, huh?
With all of the snow there is also a shortage of bicycles chained to fences and parking meters. The morons among us seem to like to take out their anger and aggression on them as well. I don’t know how many bicycles with kicked in wheels I have seen over the years.
How about not smashing anything as it costs us all more in the end with higher prices and taxes.
Um . . . isn’t public transit, by its very definition, a service provided by the very “state” that you advocate dismantling?
If a person wanted to “smash the state” (and thus revert to an existence akin to other smashed states such as Somalia or Afghanistan) shouldn’t one’s *first* choice of target be the infrastructure of that state? (“Down with oppressive state-run bus shelters!” and all that?
Or does the OB think that he can “smash the state” and yet still enjoy a functioning public transit system?
You could smash some of this icy buildup on the sidewalks and secondary streets. Sounds far too constructive though doesn’t it?
It could be worse: your attempt at free speech may be hindered…
^^^ pushin’ your luck, boy! Pushin’ your luck!
lol great article, I don’t know why people vandalize these… you don’t get anything out of it.. ?
There’s a class of people I like to call YOBs (backward BOYs). They seem to enjoy yelling at cars and strangers on the street, knocking over postal and newspaper boxes and smashing glass. In England the YOBs are issue Anti-Social Behaviour Orders. I sometimes think we need to adopt something like this.

Since it presupposes the giving of reasons, to ask “Why” the vandals smash the bus shelters is misconceived. The answer lies at the level of methodology. The proper question is not “Why?” but “How?”
Why don’t they use Lexan as a shelter window material…at that thickness, it’ll be expensive, but I’ve fired small calibre bullets at camera’s behind 1/2 inch of that stuff…a the bullets bounced off.
those windows are what 3/4 to an inch thick…. they’d stop a rifle bullet. Plus unlike Plexi glass it doesn’t yellow over time in sunshine….1 win- it doesn’t turn into millions of little bits, but you can crack it…good luck trying & 2 win- it stays clear over long exposure to sunlight 3 win- by the time the little shits finally busted/cracked one they’d be so wore out , they’d be looking for something easier to attack.
Last week as I walked along Robie closer to SPR, I saw one of the broken shelters. But it was due to the plows ‘peeling’ back the road drifts. The plow had lifted the early season ice layer, pressing them to the glass.
Don’t know if others were broken this way though.
