I’ve been frequenting the library on Spring Garden Road for quite some time, and I’m appalled by the amount of people who routinely come to the library and cause disturbing scenes, often harassing librarians or other regular customers. Why are people so crazy, and just plain mean? -Just Wanted Some Free Blu-Rays

  1. Mean, crazy… It’s all good. BTW… you no longer need to be quiet in a library, so sayeth me, your Lord and God.

  2. I always thought college kids went to the library to bone in public, sounds like it’s getting kinkier but the free blu-rays must be a bonus.

  3. University libraries have a whole different vibe, hazardous.

First floor is usually the place for conversation/group meeting-type activity, and the higher the level, the quieter it is.

Public libraries tends to attract a whole different kind of riff raff, altogether.

  4. You don’t honestly think the Lord Nelson Juggalos are there to check out the Maya Angelou, do you?

  5. I was at the bridge terminal and noticed that the pigeons have been evicted from their underground perch in the tunnel and are now sitting on buses and other vehicles looking bewildered. Maybe the beggars and hipsters have been evicted from Park Lane and decided to take up residence at the library looking bewildered.

  6. Anyone who goes to the library to do anything than read deserves what they get. Blu-Ray indeed!

  7. Off topic, but it’s judgement day in a high profile case in NS, any predictions about the outcome?

  8. Guilty as home-made sin, but somehow, it will be society that is to blame.

  9. On the bright side, when he gets out he can be Grand Marshall for North Preston’s annual Human Trafficker Pride Parade. He gets to light the ceremonial police car that begins the festivities.

  10. Back to topic. Yup, public libraries are not for SHHHHH anymore. In fact have not been for a few years. As for the ‘interesting’ people who haunt such very accessible public places – well, just another day in the ‘hood. Alderney Gate library, like the one on Spring Garden, is also a mecca for ‘interesting’ folks. As are many public libraries these days. Just wait until the new library opens on SGR – with 5 large floors in which to free range. Could become a very interesting civic ‘Glass Menagerie’ indeed. Who needs a ‘city living room’ to look out at life? When many may find it more interesting to see what is happening inside.

Many of the crowd will probably not be able to afford the cafe and sweets, so the upper crust may feel more at home in that zone. However, there may be more ‘requests’ for spare change in the area.

  11. The jury are out, if he is found guilty I predict the R word will be trotted out, and by R I don’t mean responsible.
