Why do some parents allow their elementary school-aged daughters to wear clothes that are inappropriate for a family-friendly event? The sequins, off-the-shoulder dresses, tight tank tops (it’s been in the minus double digits all week), and crotch-hugging tights have never made sense to me. Is she heading out clubbin’ afterwards? —thankful I have boys

  1. Uh.. i wasn’t there so i can’t say for sure.. But i’ve never heard of loose, saggy tights before. Just sort of hoping there was a dress over them.

Here’s the thing. It doesn’t matter how maturely a little kid dresses, they are little kids and by that logic, completely sexually unappealing. If you find a sluttily-dressed seven year old sexually appealing, chances are you’d find that kid appealing no matter WHAT he or she is wearing. (I don’t mean YOU op, i mean the royal “you” or, in other words, creepy pedobears)

My kids will not get to show off the goods until there are goods to show off. And given my late launch into puberty, I think it’s genetically safe to say that will be some time yet. But… if they choose to wear a pair of shorts, a short skirt or a tank top in winter…. that should NOT be considered sexually motivating. THESE ARE CHILDREN, OP. Don’t assign trauma to this unless it was REALLY inappropriate.

  2. It’s all in how they market the clothing, plus most stores only sell this stuff now. They want children to look and act like adults and rob them of their childhood. Booze, cigarettes, sex, and all their ads, and ploys to lure them into becoming lifelong users. Yeah, quite a world hunh?
