Dear Neighbors:
It’s a small, four unit building, with one washer and one dryer. Everyone in this building has at least one family member home 24/7. Except me. Everyone in my family is at work or school all day monday to friday. So tell me why it is that you fuckers feel the need to do your laundry on the weekends. I have to get up at 7 o’clock on Saturday morning so I can get my clothes in the washer before any of you lazy fuckers get out of bed, but I don’t mind that. What I mind is that you bitch and moan about me “hogging” the laundry facilities all day. No, I am not done yet. Yes, I do have another load. Yes, it does take all day to do a weeks worth of laundry for four people. Do your damn laundry on Wednesday. Or Tuesday. Or any one of the five days of the week that you are home and I am not.

  1. I don’t know about you, Caper, but when I get home from a long day’s work, the last thing I want to do is laundry. People who are home all day every day should do their laundry through the week, and let the working folks have the laundry room on weekends. That’s just basic courtesy.

  2. I’m in a larger building and my room has 3 washer and dryers for 20 apartments, all of which are either 1 or 2 bedroom. That leads to approximately 30 people on this floor. That leave a ratio of 10 people to 1 per washer/dryer. You’ve got it good; most buildings of that size don’t even have rooms, you could be forced to go to one of maybe 5 or 6 laundromats located in Halifax. I always find time somehow through the week if I know I’m not going to have time over the weekend, but if I know I’m gonna be home during the weekends, I’m one of those people that do it on the weekend… so i try to keep it for Sunday. Problem is; there’s a old woman who does laundry for 5 other apartments because she’s on disability and has nothing better to do with her time and usually hogs all 3 washers then all three dryers for a period of about 2 hours every day of the week. Laundry is always going to be one of those things people will always be selfish over I think.

  3. What about a quick journey to your local laundro-mat. You get there early you can drop all 4(or more) of your loads into seperate machines & then transfer them to dryers. Its like 3 times faster 🙂

  4. This bitch makes me all that much more appreciative of my washer and dryer in my unit.

The building I lived in before this one had 80 units and only ONE laundry room with 6 w/d’ers. And we had a building clepto who stole three of my downey balls and my favorite black sweater. However, doing laundry was an event and the gossipy group all did their laundry on thursdays. I happened upon it one day when I was doing laundry for a Friday flight. That was a scream.

And one time I fell asleep with stuff in the dryer and some nice person had my clothes all folded when I went back down to get them a few hours later. It was a nice gesture, although I still counted all my undies to make sure some creepy fuck didn’t take them for god knows WHAT reason.

Still, I love my in unit w/d. I pay $1000/mo for a 1500sq 3 bedroom with five appliances. It’s a new building and I just had to move about 10 minutes outside of downtown to get it. So…

  5. OP here.
Dear Halifax Caper: Go fuck yourself. I’m not going to lengthen my already long day to avoid inconveniencing a bunch of welfare bums. While these clumps of deadwood are sitting on their arses 24/7, sippin their double doubles, and smokin their menthol 100’s, and watchin their cable TV, I’m out earning a living and contributing to the taxes that pay for all their shit. And that buys me the right to be an “asshole” and bogart the laundry room on my day off.

  6. OP – you are a whiny, selfish twat.

“I’m not going to lengthen my already long day to avoid inconveniencing a bunch of welfare bums.”

Get over yourself. Not only is it none of your business what your neighbours do all day, they also have a right to do their laundry whenever they want. It might be social assistance that pays their bills, but their rent is paid which gives them the exact same rights as a tenant as you have. A lot of us live in apartment buildings with less than desirable laundry facilities… and we too have long days. We also somehow manage to have clean clothes. If you are too lazy to take 5 minutes while supper is cooking to throw a load of laundry in the washer then take another 5 minutes after supper is through to switch your clothes from the washer to the dryer then you deserve to have to race to the laundry room at 7:30am Saturday morning. Maybe if you ask nicely, one of the other 3 inhabitants could help you reduce your folding time.

  7. Sterecus – I agree, the very last thing I want to do after a long day’s work is laundry.

Doing one or two loads throughout the week has cut down on the stress of trying to do it all on Saturday…and lets me sleep in instead of trying to be the first in the laundry room on Saturday morning 🙂

No one seems to work in my building either, and weekends are a nightmare for doing laundry, with 12 units and just 2 washers and dryers.

Keep up the self entitlement OP and don’t forget to set your alarm clock!

  8. I’m not lazy, Bitchyface. I work damn hard. When I get home from work at the end of the day I am fucking tired. Unlike the lazy cunts who sit around watching Dr. Phil all day. And I don’t mind in the least getting up at the asscrack of dawn on saturday. I’m an early riser. Comes with a lifetime of working for a living. I do my laundry on the weekend, and if the twats who live in this building can’t find time between Jerry Springer and Oprah to do theirs between monday and friday, then they will just have to get up before me (ha ha) on saturday. Is one of these gems your babymamma, that you have such a need to defend them?

  9. Hey OP, there’s a lot of people in this world who work for a living, only they don’t aggressively argue with people on the internet about how ‘damn hard’ they work.

  10. I work all day too and the laundry room closes at 9 so on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings around 6 or so I do 1 or 2 loads each night.

  11. I only did so, Viego, because Bitchface here accused me of being lazy for not wanting to do laundry when I get home from work at night.
Please let me clarify. I don’t really care how my neighbors spend their days, nor do I care where their money comes from. I just think that since they are home all the time, they shouldn’t snark at me for doing all my laundry on the only day I have off.

  12. It really doesn’t take a lot of effort to do a load here or there throughout the week, OP.

Like, bring down a basket full of darks, put it in the washer (taking what? 5 minutes max), go back 25 minutes later, throw it in the dryer or bring the shit up to your apartment, and hang it up. Again, another 5 minutes MAYBE, then go back an hour or so later when it’s done drying. Save the folding for the weekend if you do fold? Although folding ONE load takes 20 minutes max so…

I don’t see why you’re wasting an entire saturday doing shitloads of laundry when you could spend MAYBE 15 minutes one or two nights a week. That’s what I do. Sure I have laundry facilities in my apartment, but the only real difference is I don’t have to walk down the hall to the laundry room. It’s really not THAT big of a deal. And yes, I’ve worked 9-5ers and managed to do this when I got home, and yes I was tired, but maybe before you call others lazy you should look at yourself: if you can’t expend the MAYBE 15 minutes of effort it would take during the evenings to wash your clothes maybe there’s a little bit of laziness in there with the tiredness. Just a thought.

Also, why can’t the other three who you live with help with your laundry? If you’re doing laundry for four people, obviously they’re not roomates so…get them to help? Fuck I was doing laundry at the age of six.

  13. Pretty Kitty, I get what your saying. But I prefer to do all my laundry at once on the day that I have time to do it. It’s a personal preference. I don’t want to do a little bit every night. I want to do it all at once, when I have the time and energy to do it. All I’m saying here is that my neighbors, who have 168 hours per week to get their laundry done, have no business snarking at me for taking up the laundry room for 4-5 hours on saturday. Is that really so unreasonable?
And the other three people are not my roommates. They are my children. And while they are all over six, I still do their laundry.

  14. Yeah, I see what you’re saying, nunya. Your neighbours are cunts. My across the hall neighbours are cunts too. They’re less cunty though since I started banging on their door when they play their god awful music after midnight at god awful levels. If they snark at you then just tell them what you told us: they have more time to do their laundry than you because you’re not around all that much. Say it respectfully and they’ll probably “get it”…and if they don’t THEN tell them to go fuck themselves. Worked for me. I was nice at first and when that didn’t work I got more aggressive. Haven’t had a problem since.

  15. All of you quit your complaining and try doing laundry WITHOUT a dryer. Yes, my apartment has only a washer so everything must be air dried. Any idea how long it takes to air dry something inside during winter? If you are lucky, about 3 days. Suck it up. At least you have the convenience of wearing fluffy, soft clothes.

  16. tresorla, it wouldn’t take me too long in my apartment. I’ve had the thermostat on 15 for 3 weeks now and the temp hasn’t gone a hair below 25. Can’t leave the windows open in winter because the engineering gods decided the best place to put the pipes was directly below the windows. (yesterday was nice though, finally above freezing to let us cool a bit)

We have 80 apartments in my building. That’s 100+ people and 5 washers and dryers.
OP still has it good… and it’s only max 1 flight of stairs.
I do laundry 2-3 times a week.. it’s all about getting in the rhythm and doing what has to be done.

I put em in to wash, do dishes until it’s time to dry… then do some tidying/cleaning where it’s needed until time to fold. Done for the day (or sometimes two if you keep this routine up) and you can chillax.

If you are insistent on being an ass about it, perhaps work out a schedule so no-one has to waste time… either with your fellow tenants or ask the landlord to place a sign-up sheet.

  17. I wonder why everyone seems to be hating on the OP over this. Seems to me his request is perfectly reasonable. Seems to me his (her?) neighbors are the assholes in the situation. Usually folk on this board are quick to hate on the welfare moms and other non-working types. Curious…

  18. I think that people are getting annoyed towards the OP because it’s a repetitive bitch, and it happens to everyone – weekend or weekday.

For instance, the laundromat across the street from me is always dead during the 9-5 cycle. Which is fine. My work has me working Wed – Sun, so I guess I’m lucky in that respect. Anyway, I went to do laundry last week, and buddy in there was using 10 washing machines. I had to wait for 20 minutes to put my 2 loads in. Did I yell at him or think he was an asshole? No. It’s just one of the things that happens when you use a communal area.

So I guess the OP has to suck it up.

  19. You know, we are kind of being dicks to the OP. She’s not complaining about doing laundry on saturday she’s simply stating that it’s the only time she can do laundry because she works (I mean she could do it in the evenings, but chooses not to, her right), and is only complaining because the people in the building are bitching at her for using the washer/dryer all day, when they have all week to do their laundry, whereas she does not. Plus isn’t the general rule of using shared washer/dryers that it’s “first come first serve?”…still, she COULD save herself a lot of grief if she did it during the week evenings, but that’s just me.

When I lived in the building without in unit washer and dryers I used to air dry as much stuff as i could. The building I lived in was built really shittily and was ALWAYS hot (as in we’d be running fans in the winter without even cracking the thermostat past 15) and everything dried overnight. Even now I air dry as much as I can and it only takes an overnight for even my sweaters to be dry.

  20. I still think she’s being a bitch.
I’d be pissed too if you went and put in load after load after load in the one set of machines….

you have 2 loads done… oh great, and now she’s putting in another one…

    deserveth of the snarkiness.

  21. Call me an elitist, but in my books, people with jobs trump people on welfare when it comes to entitlement to conveniences like laundry facilities. I’m squarely with the OP on this one.
