Dear Halifax’s motorists, you do not have full entitlement of the road. You are in-fact, a person much like myself. I would like to be able to bicycle through the city with my hand signals, lights, and helmet, without being yelled at to get off the road and to fuck off. I’m not sure what the problem is, honestly. If it’s that I’m a meter from the curb, let me remind you that I’m looking out for my safety from dangerous drivers like you! I don’t want to be clocked by car doors and being cut off mid-intersection. You don’t own the road! Stop trying to gain entitlement by demeaning others then flying off into the distance through a red light, you’re only doing it because you are in a car. If you were on foot, I don’t think you’d like me to come and talk to you. Share the road. —Normal Guy on a Bike

  1. Completely agree OP. Halifax is the least bike-friendly city I have ever been in. People are completely ignorant to the rights that cyclists have.

  2. I’m sorry but, as a driver I feel like I do own the road a bit more than a cyclist. When I buy gasoline A big chunk of the cost is directed towards the upkeep of our roadways.
I understand that we all have to co-exist on our roadways and I try to be careful and look out for everyone.
You on the otherhand, could make a bit of an effort to squeeze over to the right hand side edge instead of riding down the middle of the street. I understand that there might be a pothole up ahead that you’re avoiding but, is there a chance you’re just being an ass and slowing everyone else down?
Pedestrians might have the right of way but, you don’t normally see them walking down the middle of the road defiantly trying to make everyone late for work?

  3. Sorry steaming, you obviously don’t know the law. Cyclists can take up as much of the lane as they want/need. They are essentially another vehicle. Pedestrians aren’t allowed to walk in the street. That’s why you don’t see them.

And I don’t feel sorry in the least for you having to buy gasoline. It’s your tax for being a dick.

Here’s an idea, stop being a lazy asshole, and don’t drive the 3 miles every day. The pro’s: you don’t buy gas, you help the environment, and maybe you won’t be a lazy asshole any more.

  4. Do cyclists ever use side streets? I know I see a lot of them run through stop signs and red lights too….just like cars. Then there are the ones who chain their bikes to railings and handicap ramps. I don’t see cars doing that.

  5. lol…too funny…I don’t know what the inmate in that article is getting so upset about…go into the showers and “drop the soap” and Bubba will give him all the porn he could ever want. Besides, if you’re going to rob a bank in the winter, don’t leave a trail of foot prints in the snow from the bank to your apartment…dumbass! Too stupid to live IMO.

  6. Too many drivers in this city feel a fervent need to pass the cyclist ASAP, speeding aggressively by…then screeching to a halt at the red light 10 metres up.

“also steaming” fuel tax doesn’t come close to paying for the roads. Cycling infrastructure costs nothing in comparison to the overbuilt shit we put up for cars. And I’d be willing to bet most cyclists are also drivers.

  7. oh golly gee, another bike bitch. holy fuck o.p., when didn’t you first learn that bikes and cars don’t get alog, or more to the point, their drivers.

  8. One point I have never seen in this perpetual Share the Road proplem I thought I’d bring up finally: By the Law (you can look this up in any rules of the road book you want) Driving is a Prevliege not a right. This being said No you do not own the road, you own the car. As for the Cyclists out there yes there are plenty who do not obey the laws, and most liekly just as many drivers who do not.

Remember this one too: With out your car/bicycle you are a Pedestrian!

  9. That’s right and pedestrians are worth 10 points each, (5 if you only clip them with your door), 20 if they are using a walker!!
    😀
