I believe he plucked the pigeon first. The reference was to feathers, not the whole bird. If it were the whole bird then we might place a different construction on the incident which renders it in questionable taste.
Ah, yes, of course. I was so overwhelmed by the vividness of the imagery that I did not take time to parse the actual details of the actions taking place.

Well yes, Angel, I did think it odd but you must try to remember that the devil is in the details. That is why I always take the time to parse them.
