No, it wasn’t enough to roll your eyes and slop around at a snail’s pace as you made my OJ, you didn’t speak a word to me or my friend, didn’t say thank you and basically scowled the whole time. When we finally rang up our order, you gave us the nastiest look your pig-face could manage.

Here is what you STILL don’t seem to get. Remember back in high school when they said to you “look if you don’t work a little harder, you’re going to wind up slinging food for the rest of your life”? And you didn’t listen to them because you already knew everything? Well now here you are reaping the benefits of a piss-poor attitude about your future. Don’t take being a loser out on your customers.

Oh sure… maybe you’re a university student making a bit of extra cash on the side. Who am I to assume? But I doubt it, given your lazy, sluggish approach to the most basic tasks and the nasty-ass look of someone that is reeling from the hard slap of reality but not ready to accept her responsibility in it.

Regardless, I will NOT be buying shit from that place anymore. And neither will any of my friends until you are FIRED.

And BTW, I found one of your washed-out-purple hairs in my drink. Not only do I have to put up with your nasty attitude, but now I have your DNA to contend with too.

Seriously managers, I hope you’re reading this. You know who this is. Your new year’s resolutions need to include firing this useless, mooching slug. —The Person Who DID Give a Shit in High School

  1. Wow, did YOU ever consider this person just MAY be having a bad day. Considering her/his job that is not inconceivable you know. Take your lousy $1.25 cent OJ and take off. Preferably with YOUR nasty ass attitude! I pity the counter help. For minimum wage they have to put up with lots of people like you who expect the world on bended knee for the price of an OJ!

  2. I actually agree with Woggie here. Take your smug, sanctimonious attitude OP and shove it. Your tripe about being better than this person because you “worked hard” in high school trumped whatever lack of professionalism this person displayed.
You’re no better than anyone else. Merry Christmas though.

  3. I can’t believe you guys are defending this slack ass loser of an employee!! Who cares if they were having a bad day, that doesn’t matter if you work in the customer service industry; and neither does the wage they are making or even if the customer is an ass. All that matters is that this is a customer service position and you are supposed to give it your best every day and leave your outside drama out if it. If you can’t function on a satisfactory level so that PAYING customers are not put off by your shitty attitude then you should STAY HOME.

And yes your attitude toward high school can follow you into your adult life if you never grow up and take responsibility for your future!!! Aparently this individual is one of those “the world owes me a favor just for being alive” people and needs a lesson on the real world.

  4. Really hard to take sides on this one, but I bet OP was fingerbanged by the captain of a high school sports team, and I bet his name was either Blaine or Skylar.

  5. Troon, I agree with what you said about the OB somehow feeling that they are the better person because they “worked hard” in high school. However, I have to disagree with the notion that this gives the server an excuse to be unprofessional.
Everybody has bad days. I get that. (Hell, some of us have bad weeks/months/years). However, this person is in the “service” industry. Their job is to “serve” customers. They are paid to do this in a pleasant and courteous manner, regardless of how meagre the pay may be. This holds true for the lowly juicebar counter attendant up to head maitre d or FOH manager. To act out as the OB describes, (and unfortunately, we only have one side of the story. Maybe OB was being a complete douche to this server? Who knows?) is, in my books, completely unprofessional, unnecessary and should NOT be tolerated. You provide a service in exchange for money. The customer doesn’t know or care that you are having a bad day or the reasons behind that. They just want to order, pay for their shit and leave and that transaction should be as courteous, friendly and professional as possible. The server should at least engage, at a minimum. Like I said, unless the customer is being completely unreasonable or a total douchebag, than there is no excuse to act like it’s a chore to do the job you signed up to do. Even if the customer IS being an asshole, there are ways of dealing with them in a professional manner. As hard as it may be to remain cheery and happy and upbeat, even when feeling miserable, that is still part of the job. If you can’t/don’t want to do it, time to start looking for a new one. IMO

  6. Just to be clear I’m not excusing the unprofessional behavior of the server. I was focussing more on OP’s attitude and vitriol. Possibly, the server felt some of that from OP back in high school and that “air of superiority” vibe may have been present. I actually think that’s the essence of the situation and perhaps that’s why the server dragged their heels.
The server’s certainly wrong for being that way with any customer though, no question but eh.. the whole story may not be there.

  7. OJ stands for Orange Julius, and I can’t believe The Coast posted this. I hope for their sake the blue haired girl doesn’t get fired. Can you smell a lawsuit?

  8. Damn, I wouldn’t have thought it were the Julius either… didn’t piece that one together.
I, as I’m sure mod bird did, thought it was a waitress at an unnamed restaurant.

  9. Troodon, I love you.

And fuck you, OB. You’re an asshole. I hope you get laid off from your job and have to sling juice with a smile on your face.

  10. avast, when public employees act like the way you describe that then I’ll agree with you. I will do a job I hate but I refuse to act like I fuckin love it, when my tax dollars go towards slack ass public servants who think nothing of taking a fat salary for being dismissive, rude, unproductive and in some cases downright crazy.

But I’m opening a whole other can of worms. I just thank my lucky stars that I don’t work in the service or retail industry anymore. Did subway when I was 17, swore I’d never work with food again, and kept my promise to myself. This juice server should definitely be looking for other types of employment but there aren’t a ton of other options here. People like me just can’t pretend to be on top of the world making shit money and working their ass off. I can’t fake it, and I don’t like when people are ‘fake nice’ to me so I just don’t do it. You talk to me you’re getting 100% pure unfiltered Tommy motherfuckin Jules 9-0-motherfuckin-2.

    Merry Christmas 🙂

  11. Oh and I almost forgot, I agree that OP’s bit about working hard in high school is fuckin nauseating. Something an uppity prick would say. For all you know that server has a phD. It wouldn’t shock me. Maybe that’s why they’re not oh so fucking cheery to serve your fuckin smoothie thingy. At 11 bucks an hour they’ll have that student loan paid off when they’re… *does calculations*.. dead.

I really don’t expect much from fast food employees. They get my order right and refrain from insulting me or my mother, I’m happy as a clam. If it was a half decent place I’d call this a semi legit bitch but still deduct points for the high school comment. But if it’s a Julius, it’s almost certainly in a mall, and it’s that time of year. You couldn’t pay me enough to work that job, let alone with a huge smile for every jackwad who graces my juice stand with their pretentious presence.

  12. Would you be happy if you spent every day at the beach Paingirl? I know I would. I think they’re pretty happy as mollusks go. Gritty bunch though.

  13. Thomas has a great point.

When I was fresh out of university, I worked as a department secretary at one of the universities I attended. I had two degrees and professional certification, yet I was working as a secretary. I”d get students coming in treating me like shit because OH HAY they’re in university and going to do oh so much better when they graduated than some secretary! Didn’t I know they were going to be CEOs upon graduation?

What was hilarious is that I did the same program as them and were miles ahead because it takes time to find a job in the field I studied. Sometimes, if I was feeling particularly cranky, I’d give them the gloom and doom story of what it’s like after graduation. I’d even throw in that I did co-op! heh.

In any event, I’ve had shitty days wherever I’d worked (from working as a cashier during university to my professional jobs) but it’s always been part of my job to treat those I work with respect.

Thankfully, at my most recent job, I had a colleague I worked with quite closely that I could vent with.

That’s not to say you can’t be assertive. I had to uphold and administer policies and sometimes had to enforce policies people didn’t like, and I even had to administer disciplinary action so it was important to keep a level head and be respectful, but firm at the same time. I’ve been yelled at so many times and even been called a ‘fat head’ and was praised by many co workers on how I handled it.

“For all I know that server has a phD. It wouldn’t shock me. Maybe that’s why they’re not so fucking cheery to serve your fuckin smoothie thingy.”

You’re absolutely right, Tommy. I’m going to do my best to cheer up in future when I serve that smoothie thingy.

By the way, that should be, um, a Ph.D.

    A pleasure as always.

    Cheerio!

  15. Ahh op.. I know exactly who you’re talking about and where.

Trust me. This is typical. This employee gives not a single fuck about her job or the people she’s employed to assist throughout the day.

You hit this one bang on. This bitch frustrates me to no end and i will also no longer be going there since i see it’s not personal…

  16. And you know what? It IS important to consider your future when you’re a kid or bad shit DOES tend to come your way unless you’re some sort of genius destined to change the world. WHICH NONE OF US ARE.

do i agree with it? I dunno.. not entirely. Maybe a little. But is it the reality of the world we live in? Fuck yes.

In order to change the game, you gotta know how to play the game. You just give up right at the start, and nobody will ever take you seriously. Nor should they.

It’s one thing to say “wow. This sucks.” and make a concerted effort to change the system and live the way you want to see the world. It may not work, but it will earn you respect from seriously fit motherfuckers who know what time it is.

But if you just say “fuck this” and give up because you seem to have this undeserved attitude that you’re Too Good for the system (a typical attitude of those who fail within OR outside of it) then why the fuck should any of us give your quitting-before-you-play ass a chance?? You’re a bad gamble. A liability. A fucking slug. Op is right, i’m afraid.

  17. I work at this store, and I AM a university student who is earning a extra bit of cash on the side. I have bad days sometimes, it’s a difficult task trying to keep a smile on my face when I am constantly greeted with unhappy customers who expect the most efficient service for a 5 dollar drink. People yell at me all day, and expect me to bend over backwards so they can enjoy their stupid little smoothie. Get over yourself.

  18. ilovehali

if you can’t do your job with a certain degree of competence, then find another one.

You don’t have the right to treat people like shit just because YOU’RE having a bad day. I hate to break it to you, but EVERY FUCKING JOB YOU EVER HAVE is going to require you to put on a work face before you walk in the door. Maybe it’s a dress code or dealing with stupid clients or doing something you don’t agree with.

    Grow up.

  19. eats_crayons
You have a good point. We all have “different faces” or hats we have to put on.
    -Mom face
    -Dad face
    -Wife face
    -Husband face
    -Lover face
    -Friend face
    -Patient face
    -Doctor face
Of course it depends on whom where with and what(who, lol) we’re doing at any point in time.

  20. Nice avatar Crayons, you guys make a handsome couple.
However, I tend to side with Ilovehali because of the condescending tone of the OP in this particular situation. I agree if you serve the public, you should put your best effort forward. In the case of OP and their “I was better than you in high school and still am” attitude,I can see why they wouldn’t “snap to it”.

  21. I agree while at work she should try to be congenial towards her customers.

I wear my emotions on my sleeve and have a hard time being phoney, when I’m around other people. What you see is what you get, good or bad.Which doesn’t always make me look like a good person to others.Even when I don’t intend to hurt someone.Especially when my feelings are hurt and I have too many stress’s in my life at one time.I can and often do, admit when I’m wrong and apologize.Though sometimes, it may take me a while,to understand that I hurt someone because I can be slow.

OP We don’t know what was going on in that woman’s life to explain her rudeness towards you(I’m not excusing her) but, give the woman a break.Lord knows what shit she’s going through. If she continues to mistreat you, complain to her store manager.

  22. Eh. When you’re being paid to work in customer service (I don’t care if it’s your full time job or just a part time student job, no matter what you get paid), it is YOUR JOB to treat your customers well. If you can’t, then you shouldn’t be doing that job.

    No excuses.
