He’s outside my house almost every day. Idling. Smoking. I think he comes there for a smoke break and that’s his delivery vehicle. But it’s unmarked and we have a little tiny kid on our very little tiny street.

Actually all parents should keep one eye on idlers near their homes. For pretty obvious reasons.
Yes, because stranger snatching is all the rage. Your kid is more likely be taken by an ex or a family member. Heck, I can’t remember the last time a stranger snatched a kid in Nova Scotia let alone HRM.

Who said anything about being blase? As for approaching, was it really approaching or something else. As it was only a couple of reports, it may have been nothing and just active imaginations. I also remember the police invested an incident and found it was nothing. Which brings me back to the point, when was the last time a child has been snatched by a stranger in Nova Scotia.

some stats say approx 1/3 of girls are sexually molested before they reach 18. 1/4 of boys. statscan 2008 shows between 250-300 girls UNDER age 11 are sexually assaulted per 100,000 population of that age group. these are the ones REPORTED to the police. i think its not unreasonable to suppose that number should be at least 4 times as high, unreported. and the disturbing bar for ‘under one years of age’ indicates these are not kids with ‘active imaginations’.

GDM, two separate issues. In virtually all of those cases the perpetrator is known to the victim, not strangers. Parents have far more to fear from those they know than strangers.
