When God closes a door he opens a window… Buck up!
Yeah, he gives you the option of jumping out and ending it all.
I think you’re great at what you do 🙂
Maybe PK can spare you a cookie?? That might help.
I can commensurate with you OB. I need a ruler to draw a sraight line.
How long have you been at it? I’m giving my job a year.
so how much you charge for sucking?
can you … sing .. dance ? 🙂
If you can’t sing or dance, do it everywhere – and maybe people will pay you not to.
Everybody does graphic design. If you need something to express yourself creatively, buy Rockband or DJ Hero.
OP, Color Your World might be hiring.
Graphic design has provided me with a good living for many decades, OP, so I can only embrace it, not fuck it.
Dear Empty,
Keep working at it, you will get better. Trust me on this.
I started from absolute zero in graphic design . . . and today I also make a very good living from it.
Yes, it is a highly competitive field. At first, you get lumped in with people who think that just because they can find the “twirl” filter in Photoshop that they are a graphic designer. Not true.
Real design is a vast and demanding world, with room for all kinds of styles and tastes.
I’ll admit, I’ve been a graphic designer for 20 years, and at least 10 times a week I still think EXACTLY the same thing you wrote here. And then, because I just can’t stay away, or leave things alone, I go back to it and try to do something half-decent. And most of the time, I end with something not-too-bad that the client is happy with, and I get paid.
So, don’t give up on graphic design yet. I bet you are a hundred times better at it than I was when I was just starting out. And someday soon you will be a hundred times better at it than I ever will be.
Good luck!
Dot gives some good advice, OP. We all start out being our own worst critic. That will change as you gain more experience and insight into what makes a truly good design. Like Dot said, there’s a lot of Photoshop jockeys out there who try to pass themselves off as designers but a true designer knows how to take the elements and breathe life into a presentation.
Now start that portfolio…
Perhaps if you switched to PORNOGRAPHIC design?
