You and your constantly angry boyfriend sit on the balcony above ours and smoke your pot while your little terrors tear around your place, making a constant thumping that seriously sounds like a herd of elephants above, shaking the ceiling of our apartment. It’s been so bad that the people next to us have moved out. I can hear your kids jumping off the bed (directly above my bedroom) and your couch. It’s a miracle that they’ve only hurt themselves once, and I heard the crying. And this is every single day, early morning and night.

We had students above us before who’d have parties with 30+ people and that was no problem for me, I can usually tune stuff out, I’m used to living in apartments. Do you ever try taking your kids to the park to burn off some of that energy or are you too damn stoned? Eventually I have enough and knock on the ceiling with the broomstick like some crotchety old woman to remind you and your kids that you’re sharing an apartment and you are driving us insane. So you come tearing downstairs to come bitch me out, Maury Povich-guest style, and tell me why don’t I go up and tell your kids to be quiet?

Why the hell should I, lady? IT’S YOUR GODDAMN JOB. —If I had to live here any longer than I am, I’d call social services on you

  1. Whoa, I don’t remember doing it but I must have composed this bitch since it sounds an awful lot like my neighbours!

  2. Isn’t feral parenting wonderful? Today’s out of control kiddies are tomorrow’s juvenile delinquents. If this mother hasn’t a clue how to control her kids now how does she ever think she’ll be able to when they become self-asserting adolescents?

  3. Call social services anyways. I’m sure the surrounding neighbors will back up your statement

  4. I’ve had that happen, people upstairs were being noisy and I tapped on the ceiling and they tore down to start at me for my rudeness. Crazy.

  5. Start tossing stuff at the ceiling in random places at random times. Give them a taste of the hell they’re putting you through. Failing that, child services seems to be the sensible solution.

  6. What the hell is child services going to do about noisy kids? Unless the noise is coming from how hard the parents are hitting them.

  7. First of all. Kids will be kids. If they don’t make noise then I would find that abnormal. I would also like to hear of a case where kids never have jumped on the bed. Don’t get me started on the weed thing either. Having kids is stressful which I am sure I don’t have to remind people, hence the weed. I find it funny that the law frowns upon weed yet drinking is legal. Drinking is poison and only harms your body unlike the friendly plant that has many many MANY positive uses for medical problems, physical and mental, and also for clothing and paper and blah blah blah… the list goes on and on. Weed is a natural substance that is processed naturally through the body. When the cotton industry had a boom back in the day is when weed became illegal so it would not compete with it in the industry.
I say if you find it too noisy then don’t live in an apartment or move into a smaller building where there would not be as many people. Leave those poor people alone. I am sure they have enough to deal with having a family and they don’t need your interference.

  8. “”When the cotton industry had a boom back in the day is when weed became illegal so it would not compete with it in the industry.”‘

There is a lot of truth in this, that was the start – but it was actually a few years later during the rise of synthetic fibers/polyester from the likes of Du Pont Chemical that the American congress was lobbied to actually “outlaw” marijuana…

You made a great point about pot, in general, browneyes, that’s why I thought you might get a kick out of these quotes from the 1933 congress when it was first made unlawful…the special interest groups used racism and fear to convince otherwise unknowledgable congressmen to “ban” all cannabis products…including, of course the fibre!

These are ACTUAL quotes from the congressional debates in the 1930’s, don’t be offended by the language please, it’s indicative of the institutionmal racism of the times, especially, like today, from the “right wing”:

“”This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others.”

“”“Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death.” “

“”“Marihuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing” “”

“”“Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.””

    And my favorite:

“”“There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. “”

With lies like these from the anti-pot folks, no wonder a startled and ignorant congress finally voted to outlaw this harmless herb….August 2, 1937.

And the lies and misinformation continue to this day from ignorant and ill-informed social conservatives…

  9. In fact, this OP loses all credibility with its attack on pot…as if that is somehow connected with bad parenting.

    Booo…

  10. Thanks Mr Frosty! I appreciate the history lesson. I think I may look more into it for my own interests. It’s amazing what a little propaganda can do to convince people something is either “good” or “evil”
    I also second your “Boo”

  11. BUT PEOPLE, LEST WE FORGET, POT IS STILL ILLEGAL TO HAVE IN YOUR POSSESSION, HENCE THE CHILD SERVICES BEING CALLED. also don’t forget, the noise is at all hours, so i guess no one is doing any supervising, or at least, very little. and browneyes, wer you the weedhog in a previous personna? haven’t heard from that party in a few days. hog, where are you dude?

  12. childrens services won’t do i a thing unless you’re basically pimp’n your kids out for crack money; better to get you’re neighbours together and make a group bitch to your LL; something tells me they’re tardy with rent money and on his shit list anywho

  13. “In fact, this OP loses all credibility with its attack on pot…as if that is somehow connected with bad parenting.”
It IS about bad parenting if you are leaving your children unattended so you can sit outside and go high.
I like weed as much as the next guy.

  14. “SuperNanny? What a stupid comment.”

what a stupid fucking comment. way to add to the conversation there…

If they’re going to go through the phone book, why not call someone who may actually do something? they’ll flush if cops or social services come knocking…
at which point nothing will be done.
they seem to be fed well if they have enough energy to tear around the house.

it’s either you complain every time and make your landlord’s life as miserable and unresting as your own, suck it up and buy ear plugs and a decent stereo to drown them out… (I recommend ICP to teach there kids a little profanity..)
    or move.

  15. A study was done recently in canada that shows the typical weed smoker or “pothead” is a middle aged man with a decent job/income and a family.
I don’t even smoke weed, I just don’t like ignorant people. I also hate when eople are so stereotypical.
“It IS about bad parenting if you are leaving your children unattended so you can sit outside and go high.” Who doesn’t leave their kids alone for 5 minutes? seriously? Are you literally watching your kids 24/7 a day? Do you cook supper while they are watching tv in the living room? Do you go to the washroom without bringing them with you? Do you change over the laundry and have them follow you around? While you are at work is your babysitter making sure they are not alone for a second? Do you smoke and drink in front of them? I commend them for going on the deck to do it instead of in front of their kids which I have seen parents do and I’ve seen people drink in front of their children which I believe to be waaay worse since it does usually make people angry and unreasonable and even more impatient.

  16. “BUT PEOPLE, LEST WE FORGET, POT IS STILL ILLEGAL TO HAVE IN YOUR POSSESSION, HENCE THE CHILD SERVICES BEING CALLED.”
I see this as why they SHOULDN’T be called

  17. Ignore the drugs for a moment…

The OP pointed out that the kids are running rampant through an apartment all the time, that doesn’t mean the mom and boyfriend (is this guy even their biological father?) are stoned 24/7 but none the less, it seems they can’t be bothered to engage with the kids.

And then there’s the fact that the mother came down the stairs to tell the OP to go upstairs and tell HER OWN KIDS to be quiet.

I know we only have one side of the story, but you have to wonder if there’s a mild case of neglect happening. At least if social services came by, they could look into things?

  18. I don’t think you can say they are not engaging with the kids when this person obviously can’t witness what is going on inside the home. All she here’s is noise. For all she knows the parents could be playing with them and being noisy right along with them for the sake of I dunno… FUN.
Yeah the mother was being a smart ass because maybe she was upset that some random person was trying to tell her how to parent. I know I’d be unset about that, especially when I was just trying to look after my kids, take care of the household and possibly working too. Honestly I don’t think kids jumping on the bed and a justifiable angry incident requires a call to social services.

  19. “At least if social services came by, they could look into things?”

It would waste their time and the tax payers money. There are more pressing issues like kids being beaten I am sure they would rather deal with and frankly so would I. Unless you had some strong reasons to believe they are being abused I think it’s best to leave it alone. Social services would probably walk in and then walk right back out since they are trained to know what a serious situation looks like. And from the sounds of this persons bitch , it is full of angst and exageration so my bet is that things are normal. They certainly sound normal.

  20. All right, I’m starting to see the light… Kinda

These people live in an apartment building. Chances are the walls are paper thin, so all around people should be respectful of one another. Tell the kids to calm down, take them outside, or be a truly lazy parent and let them play video games.
The OP also could’ve just gone upstairs and knocked on the door kindly asking them to keep the noise down…

  21. “These people live in an apartment building. Chances are the walls are paper thin, so all around people should be respectful of one another.” Indeed. And her approach of banging on the ceiling or whatever was basically just asking for disrespect in return.

  22. I know, that’s why I said “The OP also could’ve just gone upstairs and knocked on the door kindly asking them to keep the noise down”

  23. We had a heel stomping, guitar playing student upstairs neighbour. We eventually got our revenge in the form of 8lbs of a colicky sleepless firstborn! Ha Ha Ha Ha?…

  24. Times like this I’m thankful I live in a house… Until my neighbor plays classical music at full volume at 1:00AM

  25. You know the neighbour’s shagging something or someone when the music gets turned up that loud at 1am…
