You’re an asshole and my mom can do better. She’s a caring woman and always has been. She gave me a good home and a great life now, and even back when she was legs up on me. I hope she will finally take my advice and dump your ass. —Loving Son

  1. It’s hard to say if this dude is an asshole (no details what-so-ever) or if you are just WAY too attatched to your mom, OP. Then again, I have been watching a lot of Bates Motel….

  2. I wonder if the kids name is Oedipus.

Get help kid. That type of love for your mother isn’t healthy.

  3. “I wonder if the kids name is Oedipus.

… That type of love for your mother isn’t healthy.”

Well this is certainly THE stupidest thing I’ve read on here.

There are A LOT of desperate women in their 40s and 50s and beyond out there who will date anything (as you know), and not wanting to see your parent date someone who is obviously an asshole doesn’t make one in love with their parent ffs.

I don’t like to see my friends date assholes. Does that mean I’m in love with them all?

    “Get help kid.”

    *facepalm* SERIOUSLY?

  4. It was a joke.

    A joke YOU didn’t find funny.So the fuck what….I don’t give a shit.

Go buy yourself a sense of humour,SERIOUSLY.

  5. “It was a joke.”

Anyone ever tell you you suck at back peddling? 😉

In any event, OB, your mom isn’t going to listen to you, unfortunately. MOST of the time, in my experience, it’s just better to keep your mouth shut because they’re NOT going to listen to you, they’ll accuse you of just trying to fuck up their happiness and just get pissed off at you.

In general, people have to learn about their shitty choice in partners on their own. They ain’t gonna listen to NO ONE. Hell, I’ve even been there and I didn’t listen to anyone. I had to learn on my own.

  6. whatacrock yeah i know that trick. Do something stupid, get called out on it and try to put the fire out by calling it a joke.

Some people will buy it. Don’t worry.

  7. No I’m not back peddling. It was meant as a Joke.I forgot LOL or **JOKE**.

OP Suck it up be an adult about it.Allow your mother to live her life, without too much complaining about the guy.
If your still a minor and he’s abusing you in anyway, tell your mom tell anybody and everybody until action is taken.

  8. I tend to agree with Hoist. It’s hard to tell if Mom’s man is a true jackass or the son is overprotective. Is the son an only child? That’s a tough dynamic for a prospective stepfather. Not saying the guy isn’t an asshole but I need a couple of examples to get a better read.
“Legs up” must mean when the boy was small. Just guessing.

  9. Exactly, crayons.

Maybe this guy’s a jackass, maybe he isn’t, but saying he’s too attached is unfair. Like I said, there are a lot of desperate 40 and 50 something women out there willing to date anyone for a little attention.

Also, what does it matter if someone is an only child?

  10. Actually it may seem he is a tad too attached to mommy. Who’s to say mom’s man is an asshole. The OB doesn’t give particulars of why he’s an asshole or say mom’s friends think the new guy is an asshole. Some kids think that any new person in mom or dad’s life is an asshole or a bitch or whatever. Do yourself a favour and stay the fuck out of her life.

  11. “She gave me a good home and a great life now, and even back when she was legs up on me.”

OP could mean when he was in utero.
    Just guessing

  12. An only child and single mom tend to have a very strong bond. Initially the child tends to be hostile to outsiders in the mom’s life

  13. Yes. OB must have some weird fascination with his mother, cause women dating assholes is unheard of. What a bunch of wankers some of you guys are!!!!

  14. of course we cannot tell if the guy’s concern is legit or not, we’re not there in person. but funny isn’t it how we tend?

  15. I know plenty of only children with single parents and I really don’t see a huge difference in how they are bonded in comparison with those with siblings.

I think there are a lot of misconceptions and stereotypes about only children that just pisses me off TBH.

    Also: what shitty said.

  16. (attempt 1)
    “You fuck your mother”

(attempt 2, when noone buys it)
    “Um, go call the cops?”

    lols

  17. You’re right PK in the sense that it doesn’t have to a hostile situation between the only child and significant other. I’m sure there are plenty of situations where things go swimmingly. However, prospective step-parents do face obstacles in winning their step children’s affection because they’re upsetting the child’s world order.
There’s often errors on both sides, the kid might ploy guilt trips on the biological parent and the step-parent might over reach to assert their authority. It can be a juggling act for the biological parent and a real period of adjustment for all parties.
That said, I’m not saying OP is an only child, just a possibility I brought up.

  18. Get used to it OP every girl gets hung up on some asshole more than once in her life. The fact that it’s your mother makes no difference to the sad truth. Girls need a control game 80% of the time. I’m not even going to admit to being sexist here, this observation is a psychological axiom.

  19. Oh I definitely agree, reg — I know a few step parents and it was hard going in the beginning. One had a particularly rough time when the kid was growing up, but now that the kid’s all grown up they’re as close as a natural child/parent even though the step parent and parent are divorced.

My dad’s parents divorced when he was two. He was adopted by his dad’s sister and both his parents remarried and he had a great relationship with his step parents on both sides. Even when his mom left his step dad he was on great terms with his step dad and his new gf.

My mom, however, had a hella hard time dealing with my half siblings (more my half sister, my half brother was really agreeable) and my mom is pretty awesome. So I think it’s more of a crapshoot to be honest.

  20. I’m not an only child but I spent a lot of years raised by a single dad after my siblings left the nest. I didn’t like most of his GF’s. it wasn’t a weird thing because I did like 1 of them. But you just have to let them learn from their own mistakes OP.

  21. In every case I’ve encountered of OB’s situation, it’s often a case of the parent consistently choosing the SO over the child. A parent who ignores their children’s feelings about a potential step-parent risks jeopardizing his/her relationship with their kids, _especially_ if the significant other is allowed to exercise authority as “master/mistress of the house.” If someone looks like they may be a keeper, introduce him/her slowly to the family without expectations, then listen to your kids, FFS. Don’t be such a dick- or pussy-hound that your kids end up miserable and rebellious.
