Dear Microsoft. I hate you and your

Sorry, my computer crashed, let me start again.
Dear Microsoft.

Why is it that you make a program for video editing, but don’t allow for it to handle video clips or large files without crashing every 5 minutes? I am forced to backup my project everytime I change something because I know that the next time I try and hit play, it’s probably gonna freeze. I have deadlines here! But it takes me 4 hours to do 45 mins worth of editing because I have to contantly shut the program down and restart.

Seriously, if you’re gonna copy programs created by Apple, start by copying their stability and usefullness. I can’t even remove the sound from a movie clip or preview my project without lag! If I could afford it I’d buy an iMac and smash your stupid windows to smithereens.

  1. I’d recommend getting your hands on a copy of Adobe Premiere (legitimately, of course) and giving that a go. I took an editing course about 8 years ago using an earlier version of Premiere, and it was not at all difficult to get the basics of it. And if the opportunity ever arises, I wholly recommend Final Cut Pro. I love it.

  2. First of all… if you have a deadline, you must be doing somewhat of a project. Microsoft Movie Maker is not made for huge 4 hour projects… get something professional for that. Not to mention, how much RAM and what kind of CPU are you running? May not necessarily be the program’s fault

  3. First, I love Final Cut Pro.

My computer isn’t awesome, but it’s pretty good, and it’s only a 3 minute piece. I just find that no other program cuts out on me as much as Movie Maker. I can do layers upon layers of things in Photoshop with no problem, but try and import some things into MM and then hit a button, and it will crash.

If I export the video and play it with something else, it plays fine, but I can’t be doing that every 5 minutes. Except that I almost have to because it doesn’t sync up correctly when I watch it with lag. Grrr.

  4. I know nothing about movie applications, but one thing’s for sure: Microsoft is beating a dead horse in trying to resurrect themselves with their lousy software and horrific marketing. PAS, it would definitely be a good investment to get a Mac (trust me on this one, I threw out my PC 10 months ago) because trying to make Windows cooperate is like dragging a 9 year old to TJ Maxx and then telling them to behave. Not impossible, but damn close.
