I may be wrong…and if i am wrong, someone please correct me: I was taught at both the drivers training courses as a teen, and all of my drivers’ training courses (mandatory for my line of work) as an adult, that when at an intersection, or even outside of one…that unless the opposing traffic to your plane of travel has an advanced green or turn signal, that someone turning left in front of traffic in an unsafe manner, or in the case of an intersection with a mutual green (no advance) that a person making a left turn is in violation of the highway traffic act and general rules of the road.

Why is it then that I see this happening pretty much on a daily basis? Guy last night, even though Iwanted to hit you just to prove a point…in this case you had little ones in your vehicle. What gets me so mad is that you unsafely made a left hand turn into oncoming traffic forcing myself and the person in the lane beside me to slam on their brakes. We both avoided the collision with you while giving you a horn for your stupidity and you flipped US off. I hope your children stay alive with you at the wheel…you already have put them in jeopardy once. -Icky12

  1. There’s also some weird shit-pulling thing where they blast out the chute like seabiscuit to make the turn before you notice your light is green…
I guess so as to not have to wait 30 seconds for the traffic to finally go by.

    Fucking idiots. I hate that.

  2. I think some people believe that if YOU can see them pulling out then it’s your responsibility to stop, even if it means standing your car on its grill.

    really.

  3. @Good dog Molly: you see exactly this with signals on the highway (or on the bridge for that matter, or busy multilane downtown roads at rush hour). People seem to believe apparently that left/right signals are orders. They’re not actually, all they are is signals. It’s entirely up to a person changing lanes (including for passing) to ensure they’ve got the clearance to safely of do all that; the only obligation other drivers have (according to the MVA) is not to be dicks by speeding up or things of that nature.

On a side note, to all the twits who enter 100-series highways at rush hour doing like 80 kmh, and you know who you are, stay home, please. You’re seriously dangerous.

  4. And OP, I might add, it’s not just about drivers’ training courses, as worthwhile as those are. Absolutely everything is spelled out in the NS Motor Vehicle Act. If people did what they were supposed to do according to the MVA (and I’m not saying I always do either), we wouldn’t need twinned highways for starters, and the accident rate would drop by over 90 percent.

  5. Figured MM would have some arrogant comment about my new user name….have to give him something to bitch and analyze…who could do without his very winded long analysis of peoples minds…I know I could…

All that being said, I partially agree with Realist in Dartmouth….80kmh per hr is a frustrating speed when merging with traffic

  6. if you approach an intersection containing a left turning car, YOU must yield to that car untill the intersection is clear for you to exit.

the Left turning car isn’t supposed to turn in front of you, but had you hit it, it might not be the big day you’d expect.

  7. They do this shit all the time when pulling out of the Home Depot/BMO complex and consistently cut of anyone making a right hand turn (or going straight) off of Fairfax.

    Assholes.

  8. He feels he had plenty of time to make that turn OP. Completely unaware that the law of averages will catch up with him.
