Why do so many houses in Halifax paint/re-side the front of their home and not the sides?? I just don’t understand! Do you think no one will notice? Aren’t you aware of the tacky-factor? I need an explanation. —Flimsy Facades

  1. When creeping in the 2 foot wide space between the houses here, pick up a paint brush and do me a solid, eh? The ten year olds I hired are growing up too quickly to fit in between anymore…

  2. I think it’s because people are unfamiliar with how many gallons it actually takes to paint a whole house. That, or they didn’t realize the amount of work it takes and when they get around to finishing it then the paints been weathered so long it doesn’t quite match.

They could have also forgotten which paint colour to buy.

  3. Ya’ see… back 100 years ago, they grew them tall and skinny. Today they can’t even take out the garbage…

  4. “WHY?” THAT IS THE QUESTION!

An excellent bitch. “Why”, of course, is the demand for reasons, the starting point of all philosophical reflection. Granted, not painting the sides of the house does not completely fulfill the criteria of such reflection, but it’s a start.

    A pleasure as always,

    Cheerio!

  5. Pride of ownership + Nova Scotia do not tend to go together. Houses half painted, mis-matched shingles, crumbling porches, garbage strewn, broken down cars in back yards, mis matched siding… the list goes on and on…

  6. It’s a metaphor for life in the Maritimes…window dressing, window dressing and more window dressing.
