I am sure I’m opening myself up for some harsh comments here but whatever…I haven’t tried online dating but was thinking about it. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories from both men and women so I am reluctant to sign up. In fact, I’d really rather not. I wouldn’t ask someone out at work because that’s inappropriate but I don’t go downtown. If I had to rate myself with a number I would probably give myself somewhere between a 6 and a 7, closer to 7 I guess. I’m sometimes funny, pretty smart, a nice person…so how do I meet someone? I make enough money but am not rich, I don’t own a car or a house. But I feel like there is more to me than that, at least I hope some women still care about other things? I’m not looking for a super model or a perfect person. This isn’t really a bitch, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions? There are a lot of opinions shared on this forum, someone has to know some trick I’ve missed haha. How do people meet offline these days? Friends recommend joining a club but I feel like joining a club to meet someone to date is insincere…and similar to asking someone out at work. What do people even do? I’m out of the loop. —Feeling lonely and getting kinda bummed out 🙁

  1. Get some wheels. I’m no Casanova, but a car helps a whole lot trying to date in this province. Dense city’s with good public transit, a car is not necessary. Halifax is not one of those city’s.

  2. On-line dating might be one way to start as long as you avoid ‘Plenty of Fish’ where 80% of the profile pix are erect dicks.

  3. Joining a club isn’t a bad idea; it’s the concept of getting out and socializing while doing something you enjoy. You will meet like minded people and maybe one of them is attractive to you, single and finds you attractive. Driving around in a car…not going to help.
Try online dating but invest in a site where you have to pay; it weeds out a lot of the idiots. Be honest on your profile and don’t spend weeks texting.
I met my GF on Match 2.5yrs ago…geez I sound like an effing commercial for them now.

  4. Get your ass to church (if your overarching world view allows that sort of thing.)

Seriously, though, taking notice of a member of the gender to which you’re attracted in a house of worship or reflection will do two things – it’ll get the social network within that community going to get you two together _and_ it will guarantee that you and that person will have a major life philosophy in common (assuming that you’re doing this sincerely) – a major vector in the long-term success in any intimate relationship.

  5. Seriously, join clubs. And yes, I guess it might feel icky to join clubs for the sole purpose of picking up, so don’t do it for the sole purpose of picking up. Join a club because it’s fun and it’s something you’re interested in, the dating will follow. People like people who are enjoying their life. Which is to say, don’t live your life like it’s a dating hunt. Live your life to the fullest and you will meet people along the way.

  6. I like my tea with tea biscuits and raspberry jam. Is there a tea biscuit club in Halifax? I think if there was we could all have a spanking good time.

  7. Hmmm how does one rate thyself? interesting…..I’ll have tea with you lol. I’m feeling rather lonely.
