Best bitch ever!
I agree!
Interac or Credit Card solves your problem – which then leads to: fucking cashier stabbed me with pen, line-up hold up, cap left on pen, pen out of ink – all of which generate eye rolls, under breath mutterings and general pissedoffishitis
Yes, that is definitely super annoying. I don’t know who taught them how to do that, but I’ve been a cashier before and common sense dictates that it’s not a good idea.
I’ll admit I’ve been guilty of what the OP is talking about. But at least when the customer drops the change (line-up or not) I’ll come out from behind the cash register, and help the customer pick up the change while apologizing frantically
Same thing happens to me… sometimes the change drops onto the scanner while the cashier is giving it to me.
A lot of stores have a policy of bills first, change second. They don’t say “And your change is 67 cents and 5 dollars”, do they? No, you hear “And your change is 5 dollars and 67 cents”.
Change first was the norm before electronic registers meant cashiers didn’t have to do math: purchase was 97 cents so 3 cents brings it to a dollar 2 x $2 bills, a five and a ten brings it back to the $20 handed to the cashier. Ever see a cashier panic these days when you hand them a penny to avoid getting a pocket full of change back? LOL
I worked retail in another life. After doing the bill first and dropping the change thing, I changed my method.
It’s simple common cents (couldn’t resist 😉 but, then again, most people seem to lack that these days.
jesus, all i can add to this is, “butterfingers”.
This is a mini-bitch, but I don’t think anyone can really say this isn’t 1000% true.
This problem can easily be solved by getting rid of bills completely and having all our money in coin form. Or having all our money in bill form.
You have two hands right? Change in one, bills in the other! WOW! Amazing! That’s how I do it, deal with it.
i’ve wanted to bitch about this for years 🙂
you’ve set me free OP. awesome bitch.
this totally falls under ‘common sense’ its effin frustrating !! aarraaaggh!!!!
It’s because they don’t want to touch your grubby hands
You know what i hate more than bills first? When they put the receipt in your hand, then pile your change on top of it!
ytzpilot, if they have hang ups about touching your grubby hands then I think they’d have a bigger problem handling cash at all. that shit is disgusting. ew.
Hey Voice…….right arm! Sooo easy to trip them up with a little change forward……..to bring the change count down……especially when you give them more than what it takes for the even bills……it’s just like sticking your leg out to trip a walker….lots a fun!
Must be a small hands problem.
I always give back change first and then the bills. I never say here’s 66 cents and 5 dollars, I just say “$5.66 your change.” And pass back change and then bills so its easier for the customer to hold onto.
I don’t think I have ever ran into another cashier who has done it this way though! Sometimes even the customers try to pass me money this way, balancing a pile of change on a bill or even folding a bill around a pile of change.
I was a cashier for way too much of my life and I always gave the change first, I didn’t had to be told. I don’t know why some cashiers do it. But I would get several customers who didn’t quite seem to understand..I would hand them the change and then they would just keep that same hand out and look at me puzzled, wondering why I was still holding the bill. But yeah, never had a cashier do this for me EVER. Whoever got rung-in by me, you are lucky :D!
