Yep, I’ll say it. I hate them. It bothers me that some people have mental issues that can place them in these positions, etc and I do believe they need help but the rest of you can f*ck right off.
I almost hate to say it but GET A F*CKING JOB! When I get approached by a healthy younger person begging for change/cigarettes/whatever on Barrington or Spring Garden I just feel like stuffing a fist down your throat. Work sucks for all of us you know so why the hell should I give you anything at all? We all make sacrifices and have to deal with shite at times so I really do not give a flying f*ck if you want to wear 10 nose rings or dye your hair three shades of purple. Get a job that allows that sort of dress. I know they exist because I have had friends that did it and who incidentally have enough self respect to not act like filthy street urchins bothering people for quarters.
You’re all a bunch of stinking unwanted parasites cluttering up the streets and making what should be an enjoyable walk somewhere, an exercise in avoiding human scat. It seems obvious that if you truly wanted to, you would be working to change your life – get a job, get help for possible addictions, etc and there are programs out there for free. I am sooooo tired of hearing about the “plight of the poor street kids” when I recognize some of you as having been begging for the past 6-8 years. You can’t make any progress at all in that time?
I hope someone at City Hall grows enough balls to get you away from the rest of us. Life rots for us all at times but the rest of us are not here to assist your apparently chosen lifestyle indefinitely.

You are a true hero and scholar.I agree, I see those rat bitches on the street or at the intersections and I wonder why they don’t simply become prostitutes, at least they provide a service. Their lifestyle is abhorable and as such they should be treated like the maggots that they are.I have a suggestion, the next time one of these *snicker* “people” ask for money for a coffee, buy a cheap cup and spit (without them noticing) in it and give it to them and watch them drink it. If they don’t drink it then you are obligated to make a citizen’s arrest with a billy club for theft and them being a con-man. Kick in their teeth so they can sell it for quarters. If you stab them then you help them have a free home at hospital!Everyone wins and you feel better about yourself!
These hateful comments remind me of how gypsies are despised and hated in European countries. I see a deep rooted hatred of the poor and street people emerging in this country. I hope these despised street people, who are commiting violence toward no one, take a Canadian flag and burn it in the middle of the street. If you posters own a home or property you deserve to have every square inch of your car or house covered in grafitti.
Yeah, what’s with the ‘if you stab them you’ll help them have a free home at the hospital’ who the fuck are you to say something like that?! I don’t like being asked for change on the street either but keep in mind that some of the people on the street are kids who’ve left their parents home because of horrible situations that we only hear about on the tv. If you don’t want to give them money…fucking don’t! Walk away! You’re comments are only breeding hatred and intolerance and I think we have enough of that going around without your narrowminded comments adding to the mix.
I agree (to an extent). It sucks that some people that have mental issues are forced to live on the street but I think the target of this rant is the people who are doing this because they think it is cool or “punk” or whatever or because they are just fucking lazy and unreliable. Those people are out there and they piss me off too. I have been approached by the squeegee punks on the Commons before and usually they are polite but I cant help but think “Get a fucking job!!!!” Nobody held you down and tattooed your face (if that happened thats a different story, that person I would feel sorry for) so the reason you cant get a job is your own fault. The above rant was hate fueled but thats what happens when you are pissed off, I havent been approached in a long time (living in NFLD) but there have been times in Halifax when I have been spit on because I wouldn’t give some bum smelling of Listerine money, if someone asked me how I felt about this issue right after it happened I would have something very similar with an elaborate murder scenario. Everyone has their limits of patience, preach on, thats what this is for.
It’s not the poor people that are legitamately poor that I personally dislike, it’s the ones that are healthy enough to stand there for hours a day, that look young enough to work and that are more than likely just too lazy to work. I know there are real homeless people on Spring Garden road that genuinely don’t have a home and actually can’t get a job and then there are the ones that look perfectly fine and healthy. Yeah, looks can be deceiving and I can just as easily make it look like they don’t exist by not acknowledging them.
hey- i grew up and still live under the poverty line and i totally agree with this post. canada is one of the richest countries in the world and its insulting to the legitamite poor when these shitbags CHOOSE that lifestyle as if there were no other alternative. i’ve lived here my whole life and the amount of street people keeps growing every year. while some of them do need help, i believe most are self-pitying lazy little pukes, who have ruined it for the truly needy.
We were approached by a very healthy young lady (I use the term lady loosely) while stopped at the intersection of Connaught and Bayer’s Rd. When we ignored her, she grimaced and spewed out “you two have a nice day”. That let us know immediately that she had all of her faculties about her. There was no visible reason a person of her age (young) and obvious good health should resort to panhandling and people like her will never get a penny of my hard-earned money. I fully agree with Gimpysaviour’s comment (#1).
I agree with guywithajob I mean seeing people all over the city asking for money because they don’t have a place to live, for medical reason, to eat and asking for people hard earned money. I do feel bad for them in away and jsut like other people have said there are free services out there to help get you on your feet and find you a job. An actual job just like anyone else in this city and clean up your act. Do you think I want to sit in traffic on my way home from work and see you walking up to my car asking me to spare change. After I’ve worked an 12 hr shift to put gass in my car, food on my table and pay the bills? What has this city come to when cops and people in charge of this city do nothing to help these people get off the street. It’s on thing to have a human going hungry but don’t bring the pets along with you to suffer.
how about this lovely russian proverb: ‘never disavow jail or a beggars purse. you could end up a beggar in jail sometime, although you’ve never thought it possible.’ umm…or how about this: don’t spit in the well, you might get thirsty someday. everyone has a story. everyone comes from somewhere. everyone gets hungry. i hope you never have to feel such pain, even though your empathy button is broken.
Hey banjon – If it’s the same girl – she had a job in a kitchen but said – “I can make more money begging on the street” and didn’t show up for work. These are the people that make me so angry. But how can you know who are legit and who are just fuckin’ lazy. And to the person who commented about the gypsies – I lived in Europe for five years and gypies are extremely aggressive – I’ve had curses put on my ass because I didn’t give up a euro. I’ve read many articles on the gypsies and it’s a lifestyle for them as far as everything I’ve read.
Saw one dude in front of Tim’s on Barrington with a headset on and new sneakers. Yes – he deserves our money, doesn’t he??
Where is the damn city in all this? Can’t they enforce some kind of ban on these lazy, shiftless siphons of society?
the reality is a lot of this kids still live at home, a lot of them r dealing and all of them realize they can make more $ begging than working a shitty minimum wage jobsympathetic suckers, often elderly and the weak who give out of fear supprt them…no support = no problemim down wirth handy girl
Shit, I used to get beaten till the white meat showed and you know what I did? I got a job and moved out! If those punks want sympathy they better look in the dictionary between syphillis and shit! They can’t use their childhood as an excuse because they could always have made the choice to go to a shelter and then become a ward of the providance. Then they can use public education and if they are lucky community college. But no, they decided to band togeather, have a car and pay for their rent by panhandling and squeeging. They are filthy smelly vermin that deserves a bat to the face.Oh, and it’s (you’re) not (your). Please learn english.
…… and 4 a lot of people conforming is the last thing they ever want to do, they’d rather be dead than wear a suit and have to dine with phonieswe once were wild….. we will b again
Oh get real. Sure there are some people that end up in bad situations but unless you’re a mental case, 8 years of constant begging is a choice! I have zero sympathy for them. Life is hard, work is hard (that’s why it’s not called vacation) and if people have no desire to take anything on to improve their lives then let them rot. Stay out of our faces urchins.
dear, ‘guywithajob’, life is only hard if u make it hard, the truth is life is child’s play, we r here to learn, to share and to have fun, especially to evolve spiritually, u have been conditioned to believe ‘life’s a bitch’, because u concentrate on the physical, it is not, we r worth much more than $ in bank accountsbodhisattva path
Oooookkkeeee mwh……I’ll get out the sandalwood and start chanting right away. Yep….right away….We’re talking about useless street people who won’t pull themselves out of the crap but still expect us to support them. If you’re fine giving your $ away while puffing on a bidi then fantastic. I’m not.
u think that which is sacred (sandalwood & chanting) is a joke, why?they r not useless, u c crap, some c freedom, perspective, vagabondi dont give my $ away & i dont know what a bidi is
i used to work at the dome/attic and all i have to say is if you are going to beg for money and then spend it on alchol atleast try to hide it and leave the squigi at home
I was at the Mental Health Coalition meeting. Each and every organization who come up to propose solutions come up with : affordable housing, more fundings for the affected individuals (and not for the systems), cold turkey the medication and move towards affordable healthy choices. Helping out the homeless and the low-incomes. Then, this ‘mental health doctor’, who seems to be part of the proposed coalition, asked for the mic and say something to the effect of : I am having a hard time following the discussion. Can we all focus on treating the mentally-ill and not go all over the place?
