Dear Landlord,

Learn how to fix things. Our bathroom faucet is broken and the cold water tap on the bathtub has been broken since June. We have called you six times, put in two written requests for this to be fixed. I am so frustrated with this, is it that hard to fix something.

We already had to replace the toilet seat (which was cracked when we moved in) and now the shower head (which recently just cracked), I am not replacing two faucets. I am so sick and tired of you not making repairs, I am sick and tired of calling you and writing to you and you do nothing.

Also I want my $75 back for the parking spot, which you assured us, oh yes I have parking. Then four phone calls later to find out which spot you tell us to park on the side of the driveway to the building and that we are on a waiting list for parking. Why did you cash our check if you knew you didn’t have parking?

I just submitted yet another request for the repairs and also for the return of the $75, you have one week or I am making the application to the tenancy board (which I am sure won’t do a damn thing besides cost me another $30). —South Street

  1. Sounds like my apartment. The only difference is that it’s been since September that I have leaky faucets etc. I had to let out a very cynical laugh when they raised the rent. Really, do what you can to make them do what they should have done ages ago. Good luck!

  2. I have a great landlord. Replaced our hot water heater, fixed our shower head that leaked, got rid of our beehive problem. Lends us tools if we need them. All around great support of their tenants – because good tenants matter more than making money (it costs money to evict!).

  3. My old landlord was awesome! When they knew I was busy at work and wouldn’t have time to cook dinner for myself, they’d have a hot meal waiting for me when I got home. They were awesome.

  4. Definitly take it to the tenancy board. Its not as pointless as it may seem. We didn’t have heat for half the winter, because of old heaters, along with many other problems, and ended up getting almost $1400 back. If you have receipts and dates, and don’t mind attending a breif hearding between you, the landlord and someone from the tencancy board, it is easy as pie. It will also help future tenants of this landlord, if it ever happens again. Good luck!

  5. i am glad that where i am i don’t have to worry about things like that. usually just a call, and next day, problem fixed. black rose knows where i am, and it is quiet here over 90% of the time, just the way i love it.will i ever move, only when i win the big one, til then, me stay put.

  6. if its the place next to the workers comp building there is never parking for the tenants b/c they rent the spots to the hospital workers for a higher monthly rate. Check out the underground parking, do you really think that the people driving those expensive cars are living there?

  7. With my building, the problems we ever had with getting work done (it’s a new building so there’s usually not much to fix around here) was because of our superintendents. We just had a change over and the change is amazing. The hallways smell fresher because they actually put the air exchangers on (the building itself smells so much fresher), it’s cleaner in the hallways (it wasn’t dirty before, but I’m noticing a definite presence of the super and cleaning procedures). The grass is even being maintained on a more regular basis! They’re easy to reach and actually follow up. My mom called about the smoke smell in the hallways because it was seeping into our unit and they put the exchangers on right away and the smell was gone within an hour or so PLUS they called that evening to follow up!

We had an issue with a door knob that stuck (we had to break it off to get the door open) and the next day the super was in to replace the knob.

So, a lot can depend on a superintendent. If you’re not getting satisfaction from your first line of contact, try the rental company directly, if you have one!

  8. I wonder if we have the same landlord. Not a lot of problems, but a few/couple have come up since we moved in. Told him about them when we first moved in and nothing was ever done, not even fire alarms!!! Then he raised the rent on us $100 more every month. Love the location, but the rent is outrageous, there’s a racoon living under our deck (when we told him about it, he threw his hands in the air and said “what do you want me to do about it?”). It’s sad that we continue to be taken advantage of 🙁 wish we didn’t sign up for another year….
