Recently I have seen several cases of police vehicles (very clearly in NON-EMERGENCY situations) that are illegally parked. And no, I am not talking about overtime on a parking meter. Examples? (1) Parking on the wrong side of the street i.e. facing the wrong direction, (2) Parking in a fire lane, and (3) Numerous instances of parking in the double yellow zone next to a handicapped parking space.

I am not a cop hater and I get that there are good and bad in any occupation, but what I don’t get is why they do this repeatedly and then whine on that they get so little respect from such a significant segment of the population. —Sorry Officer, I Keep Forgetting You are Above the Law

  1. But of course you seem to know the nature of their business as you claim it is NON-emergency. Get fucked.

  2. did it ever occur to you, that they might have just answered a call to be there. yeah, big deal, i see police doing shit too, but i leave my judgement out of it. did you see them in car, or was lights flashing? no, then next time, take a pic.

  3. how do you know the situation is non-emergency? Besides the fact that you think you know everything, of course.

  4. I saw a cop parked in the fire lane at the empire theatres in bayers…
no lights… just plunking away on the computer….
I wanted to say something but have a good track record with em so far and didn’t want it tarnished.

It wasn’t like someone was knocking the place off, I was just in there getting out from a movie. they just seem to do because they can.

  5. I was in a comic shop onetime not too too long ago and a cop parked right in front (can’t remember if he pulled up the cop car up onto the sidewalk for his adventure or not) and came in to see if his stuff had arrived yet…

I mean, we all do shit like this, but have some consideration that you’re wearing a fucking uniform, eh?

  6. The way I see it, is that its so damn hard to find a parking space near where you want to be, you’ve got no choice . I can’t tell you how many times I go to the Building supply store out here, 6 handicapped parking places. In 9 years I have seen no one parked there. the paint is GLEAMING its sofresh, it was redone back in August, because I was there that day!
The lack of parking in downtown Halifax is why any place that steals the spaces in front of them for a ‘deck’ I refuse to go in them & spend any money.
I do the same thing on the Darkside, if you want fresh air & sunshine in your establishment…do it up right , like they did the ‘deck’ at the Palace, or get those removable windows like they have down at the Split black bird, & although they put a ‘deck’ outside it takes no parking spaces up !

  7. Unless you know it’s Non-emergency (call the station), then emergency vehicles are exempt from parking regulations.

    Exemption for emergency vehicle
157 The provisions of this Act respecting the parking and standing of vehicles do not apply to a police or fire department vehicle or an ambulance when the vehicle or ambulance is being used in an emergency. R.S., c. 293, s. 157.

Further, a municipality can exempt certain vehicles from parking regulations:

    Exemption from parking restrictions
154 A council of a city, town or municipality may make a by-law exempting persons or vehicles from parking restrictions within the city, town or municipality and providing for permits to be issued to those who are exempted. R.S., c. 293, s. 154; 1995-96, c. 22, s. 4.

  8. As well Bro Tim. If you are in the drivers seat, in a no parking area, you aren’t considered parked, you are stopped.
There is that distinction as well.

  9. YOUWATCHYOURGODDAMNEDMOUTHOB,YOUASSHOLEHOWDAREYOU!
    THEY’RE HEROESSSSSSSssssssss!

    Jk!
Some of them are just as pea-brained and assholey as anyone else, only the badge and gun gives them The Power.
Some of them are the same jock assholes as they were in school, some of them need to park there to do their job, and some of them blah blah.
How are you going to know if they’re there legit, like?

Report it if it’s a hazard.
Seriously, a cop parking on the sidewalk to go see if his comic books are in is a DICK MOVE.
but some of them are dicks. Probably same % as civilians are.

  10. I agree a certain percentage of the police force are power-trippers but the problem is their visibility (in these instances) which makes it seem like more often than, say, other occupations.

  11. OP here… Situation 1: I did (politely) challenge the officer as he arrived on foot back to his vehicle just as I arrived (also on foot). This did not end well.

Situation 2: I saw vehicle arrive (no lights/no rush) and watched officer go into premises (grocery store) as I was arriving to do my grocery shopping.

Situation 3: I have seen police vehicles parked in this spot numerous times (same grocery store) and I can say with reasonable assurance that there is no emergency inside.

All situations were vehicles parked (not just stopped with officer inside). I DID take pictures on one of these occassions and e-mailed them to Tim this morning, as I would not know how to post them here.

Tim thanks for the legislation reference. I had actually searched for that, but couldn’t find it. Have a nice day.

  12. Did you ever stop to think that if they are answering a non emergency call, that they may have to get back to their vehicle as quickly as possible for a real emergency that may arise. For example ,if they stop for a security system in a building that was set off accidently ,they have to respond to it if they are in the area. What happens if theres a shooting in the area they patrol that happens to be a few KM away as they check out the false alarm. They’re not going to walk back to a parking garage ,or in the back of a parking lot get their car.
Fuck, some people are fucking braindead sometimes.

  13. Checking in on a false alarm is a little different than picking up a loaf of bread, quart of milk, and a pound of butter. Or parking illegally to pick up the latest issue of X-Men.

  14. Let’s see now, why would a police vehicle be parked in front of a grocery store and this happens quite often? First thing that comes to mind would be taking custody of a shoplifter.

As for your Situation 1, you give no information so no response can be given.
