The sentence sends the message that a drunk’s selfish idiotic choice to drive, endangering the rest of us, will NOT be tolerated. Even if it was their first offense which in this case it is not.

I am sure that society feels harsher toward his actions (how many convictions for this offense? And those are just the times he got caught!) than he feels toward his sentence. Let him stay in jail where he belongs! I think he got off easy. A harsher sentence would have been preferable for this repeat offender!
FINALLY a judge had the balls to give one of these fucks what they deserves! This fucker has had FIVE federal prison terms…in the US some states have a “three strikes” law, and I think we should adopt something like that here. That way this poor excuse for a human being would’ve gotten life two prison sentences ago.
I agree with what the family said who owned the car that was sideswiped: his family should be focusing on getting him help for his drinking problem rather than getting him out of jail early.
I had two family members killed by a drunk who was driving his girlfriend’s car (she gave him the keys!) because his own was taken away because he had like 3 DUI convictions and had his license suspended. Maybe if whomever sentenced him had’ve had the balls this judge had, my family members wouldn’t be dead. Novel concept, eh?

Lynching someone who’s fucked up, doesn’t solve anything…it just kills one person who may or may not be guilty….But this guy has the worst drinking & driving record in Nova Scotia…the worst & as someone else posted…that’s just what we know about !
He may not have hurt anyone in this last incident, but he hit a parked vehicle with people in it. I don’t know how familiar most of you are with the ramp up to the Big Stop in Enfeild at exit 7 (just past the airport,its the next exit) but it has to be a minimum of 3+ lanes wide at the top of the exit & it is wider than any single lane road all the way up it, plus it has shoulders on both sides.
Personally, I think he got off light, he deserves to be labeled with that dangerous offender status, I don’t believe a Judge should have to wait for him to kill one of us, before he gets taken off the roads for ever.
Too bad the innocent people the drunk drivers kill don’t have a second, third, or fourth chance at not dying, being horribly maimed, handicapped, or brain-dead…

I’m turning left onto a road, with no traffic except for this teen, who hops over three lanes, speeds up and is busy chatting. I was well into my lane already, when he hit me. He jumps out of his sister’s cars and starts cursing me out, all they while he’s still on his cell. No drivers’ license was produced and who’s fault was it? Mine…

I think both offenders should get a swift kick in the genitals, and yeah, both should carry harsh penalties. For starters, I don’t even know HOW people can actually text and drive at all, and second, no one in my family, at least, will even answer their cell if they’re behind the wheel — won’t even touch it. I called my mom today on her cell and she didn’t answer. She called me back a few seconds later after she pulled over. She wouldn’t even answer to say “hold on a second I’m going to pull over.”

There’s just something about a fully grown human being making the CHOICE to put everyone else in real, mortal danger that makes me imagine the Wild Wild West. Besides adding 2000 lbs of metal and improving your odds at hitting the “target” with an object a billion times bigger than a bullet (your car) how is this different from walking around with a loaded, cocked shotgun pointed at EVERYONE you approach ALL the way home? It’s not different and it didn’t take that long for us to get a handle on the danger of guns being waived around wily-nilly by a shit-faced Joe Public. Yes, maybe if we did jail morons for being on their cellphones either talking without a hands free set, or texting, people would get the idea. Anyone remember the story of the woman that plowed through a bunch of kids downtown the first week the cellphone ban was implemented?
Anyways, back on topic. Drunk driving has to be dealt with seriously. I don’t even touch alcohol if I’m out driving. 5 beers might be okay for you Frosty, but there are those of us who drink 2 or 3 and we feel the effects. I say lower it. Make it 0.05 (I think that’s in the works, actually). Create a no tolerance policy on it, because if you’ve had a few too many, you might as well behind the wheel of a 2 tonne missile.

IMO, the drunk in question should be thrown in jail forever. He shows zero willingness to reform or take responsibility for his actions. It is surprising that he hasn’t killed anyone yet.
Agreed Three. If this case even gets as much of a consideration of an appeal we might as well consider “the system” okay with the drinking and driving and the fact that someone is likely to get killed by this guys actions, hopefully its only himself.
