Many thanks to the person who stole my locked bike from outside of my house last night. You have broken my heart. I understand why you would want to steal such a beautiful treasure, but you have crushed my summer biking plans & ruined my quick rides to work. I bet you weren’t thinking about that when you cut the lock and claimed it for your own. You probably don’t think about anyone but yourself. Not only can I not afford a bike right now, that bike was made by my friend for me and is irreplaceable. I’ve never seen another bright blue Raleigh Transit (from the 70’s) in this city & I will be keeping my eyes peeled for it. —Bikeless

  1. File a police report. Let the local bikeshops know the bike’s specs. They have come through for me before in the case of a stolen bike.
Your standard skel isn’t that bright. The chances of it being offered, at pennies on the dollar, to someone who knows the sight of hot merchandise when they see it, acquiring it and then reporting it immediately afterwards, are pretty likely in this city.

  2. if it was on your property, then your insurance should cover the loss, if you have insurance. most times, it will be not far from your place, take a walk up and around your area, you might just find it.

  3. If it’s outside in HRM, it’s basically free for the taking. Hell, people even stole picture tables from a park in Bedford! Never leave anything of value outside. Likely the bike has been pawned off, possibly through Kijiji, or have been taken out of province with many, many more bikes. On a good note, that’s one less bike on the streets of HRM and more room for cars.
