To my neighbours with the black lab: I hope that dog eats your face off someday. All you fucking do is put the poor dog outside (at night, mid day and even morning). If you have no room for a big dog GIVE IT THE FUCK AWAY! I wish that someone would put you outside in the cold day in and day out!
Also to the people out there with big dogs (or dogs in general) in small apartments: you need you head checked! What the hell is the point in haveing a huge dog in such a small apartment? Let someone with space and time have the joys of a dog and get a damn Goldfish!
Last to the bums on the street with pets: Is the pet all you have for a friend? I want to rip the leash out of you hands when I walk by you or give you something like a loonie to take the pet off your hands. You can’t afford food for yourself! Give up the pet until you can actually take care of it!
I swear all cases should be some sort of animal abuse!

I totally and 1000% agree with this bitch. It should be outlawed. It IS animal abuse but people turn a blind eye to it. When you snuggle down in your warm bed at night imagine the poor shivering dogs tied to a post. It makes my blood boil. I have been living in the Arctic for a few months now and I see dogs tied up outside here.. in minus 55 and blizzards. I always call bylaw now when I see it. They give the person a warning and if it happens again they take the dog from them. I have seen Southern dogs (anything below the Arctic Circle is considered ‘Southern’ up here) tied up outside. It’s bad enough to see husky’s tied up, let alone dogs that do not have the same type of fur to keep them warm. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR…
Karen and OP God Bless ya people like this should be sent to Iraq with an American flag on their ass saying tortute me now. Animal abuse is wrong dead wrong. It takes one big ass fucking coward to harm an animal. child or woman.
re Big Dogs in small apartmentsIt depends on the breed of the dog. Some big dogs will sleep 23 hours a day if they’re left alone. And some small dogs (think Border Collies, Jack Russels, etc) are meant to work all day, everyday, and that’s what they’re bred to do. They have stupid amounts of extra energy for a reason. I personally think they make bad house pets period; people get dogs for the look and then wonder why the dog shreds everything in the house when it’s left alone, and return it to the breeder. That’s why you should research the breed before buying.
I live outside the city because my two Labs are very active and need a lot of space. To keep a Lab inside or outside a small space is pretty damn cruel and somebody’s ass should be kicked repeatedly.
Karen – did it ever occur to you that the dogs you see in the Arctic have been bred for decades for just that climate? Do you think a team of sled dogs can pull over for shelter whenever YOU thinks its too cold? We aren’t talking lap dogs here but Huskeys and other large breeds that handle cold weather better than most humans.
Now Mr or Ms (Mrs, Miss, etc) ex-Haligonian, are simply looking for a reason to argue? Karen said:”I see dogs tied up outside here.. in minus 55 and blizzards…”and”I always call bylaw now when I see it. They give the person a warning and if it happens again they take the dog from them.”There are people in the Arctic who can stand the cold much more then people on other parts of the world. Does that make it ok to put a child outside in the blizzards and even tie up a child to a post? Before typing a response to make yourself feel better that you got your opinion heard, actually re-think what you type.Steve (know as)Hope the SPCA puts you down!
No Steve, not looking to argue at all but simply demonstrating that sled and cold-weather work dogs have been used in the Arctic, where Karen was commenting about in case you missed it, for decades if not centuries and are quite capable of coping with the harsh conditions up there. The dogs have been conditioned and bred to live and work in those conditions whereas a small child, adult or even most “city” dogs wouldn’t be able to.Next thing you’ll be complaining that cows shouldn’t be allowed out to pasture when it rains cause they might get damp. I’m all for animal welfare but you have to draw a line at what actually constitutes cruelty and having an outdoor animal outdoors isn’t cruelty if a dog house, food/water is provided and the animal has grown a winter coat. Don’t forget that arctic dogs are also used as work dogs and also for protection from larger animals such as polar bears.
Dogs in Yellowknife that actually do work as sled dogs are yes bred for that purpose ! Dogs here in Nova Scotia that are out in -55 degree weather are not. Huge difference.
And no one claimed that Halifax dogs were out in -55 degree weather – read Karen’s post again and you’ll see she states:”I have been living in the Arctic for a few months now and I see dogs tied up outside here.. in minus 55 and blizzards.I always call bylaw now when I see it. They give the person a warning and if it happens again they take the dog from them. I have seen Southern dogs (anything below the Arctic Circle is considered ‘Southern’ up here) tied up outside. It’s bad enough to see husky’s tied up, let alone dogs that do not have the same type of fur to keep them warm.”So what I read is that even though she knows the Husky’s are quite capable of living in those “harsh” conditions, she would still call the animal control folks even after she admits they have the fur needed to live in that weather. She’ll make a fine neighbour when old… everyone needs one of those gossipy old ladies to use as target practice.
You people who assume that all dogs as pets in the Arctic Circle are “sled dogs” are, obviously, wrong. As well, sled dogs haven’t been used for years, except in competition. Get a grip.
Ex-haligonian: The fact that there is a by-law in place would suggest that the conditions described put the animals at risk, don’t you think?I hate nosy old biddies too…but sometimes you gotta butt in and keep your community and it’s animals safe. I’m with you on the wet cow example though…sometimes we take the whole animal rights thing a little too far.
Contact the SPCA and the Media about that poor black lab that is left outside in the cold. That is cruel !!!!
ex-Haligonian,Perhaps you didn’t read the last sentence in my post. There are Southern dogs tied up outside, as well as Husky dogs, “It’s bad enough to see husky’s tied up, let alone dogs that do not have the same type of fur to keep them warm.”AND I lived with someone who worked for by-law and almost everyday in the winter they were called to scrape a frozen husky off the ground. Yes, a Husky is built for life in freezing temperatures but they are NOT built to be tied with a 3-foot rope so that they can’t run to generate body heat. I have seen it, I have heard it, and even sled dogs are warm blooded animals. I will not be a ‘gossipy old lady’, but I will always act as an advocate for creatures who cannot defend themselves.
“Also to the people out there with big dogs (or dogs in general) in small apartments: you need your head checked!”.You obviously don’t own a dog or don’t exercise it, if you do.When I went to adopt a dog at the SPCA I went in looking for a small dog because I lived in a small apartment. The woman working there pointed out to me that dogs don’t get excercise in the house whether they live in a mansion or a shoe box. Dogs generally sleep through the day and get their exercise when their owners take them out. My two 70lb (living in 700sq foot space) dogs run 8 km each morning and go for a walk each evening. It doesn’t matter what size your home is. If your dogs get lots of outdoor exercise, they want to relax in the house…no matter what size it is.
