Here is a noval way for the province to make some money, start re testing drivers every two years.. My god how people do not know know how to drive, to fast to slow left when going right, cell phones etc

I need my lic for my work but if i did not i think i would either take the bus or walk

keep in mind that we have surpssed montreal as the most dangerous city to drive in —look both ways hahahaha

  1. Here is another “noval” idea. Make people pass a basic literacy test before allowing them internet access. Retest them every two years. At their expense. Divert the revenues to actual education funding , as opposed to fattening up the N.S.T.U. pension fund.

  2. This would be impossible. I took my drivers test in the valley. Do you know how many driver testers they had for digby to windsor? One person. Access nova scotia is pretty brutally underfunded

  3. The main issue is that we need to improve compliance with laws and regulations. How can we reduce distracted driving and over-aggressive driving? Re-testing won’t help with that. Better enforcement and stiffer penalties will.

  4. Great idea. Road test would be awful and complicated (staffing needs vs. number of drivers) but a written test could help. Basic signage is not even known (see this one for the mass confusion: https://twitter.com/hfxtraffic/status/6785…; right lane as right of way as you’re supposed to be in the right lane unless passing and when the lane markings go solid it is no longer legal to pass, it’s in the NS driver’s handbook and the motor vehicle act) so general rules must also be out the window for a lot of people here.
Would this solve the issue? Likely not. A lot of drivers are just plain selfish and in a hurry to get nowhere. Can’t hurt to try a quick test, could even be done on a computer and linked somehow to brush up on rules. Make it so if you fail that, no retry for X days.

  5. Al Bundy that twitter convo is hilarious. People applying “logic” are hilarious. “Right lane ends therefore it must be the left lane!” Wrong, try again.

  6. Most of the people in that twitter thread don’t even know when that sign appears. No wonder driving is so shitty around here.

  7. People are just too selfish and impatient. I can’t believe how many speed down residential streets, which are a max of 50k!! I’d like to see ‘traffic cops’, cops that are devoted to giving tickets, etc to people for driving infractions (not to say they can’t help out in emergencies though!) but until people start taking it in the wallet they aren’t going to change their behaviour. Lights at intersections and crosswalks could help too….catch the people that speed through red lights and those that change lanes right before a crosswalk (solid line)….things like that. Considering how many ped/car accidents occur at crosswalks you’d think there would be more of a cry for cameras at them.

  8. what about those fancy bluetooth touch screen monitors in cars? Always here people complaining about teenagers and 20 somethings on cell phones but what about the 50 year old in the Grand Cherokee Limited with the 7inch GPS/Radio/CD/Aux/Bluetooth/Toaster thing, I love those things don’t get me wrong but I don’t really know how I feel about my dad playing with that thing at 120/km/h My car is older so it has a simple radio with like five buttons??? I have to say though I think people over blow the drivers here, Most I find are courteous and nice, People let you into lanes and make a turn… Just kinda dumb with their signal lights and braking…. How about this one, My sister is in driving school and they are still teaching 10 and 2, However car manufactures and many american driving schools reccomend 9 and 3, With your hands at 10 and 2 the airbag will shove your hands hard into your face and can blow your fingers off! So dangerous!

  9. It would be expensive but camera’s at some of the worst intersections/crosswalks (looking at you dutch village rd) would be a good place to start. Almost get run over while crossing the street? No problem, call this number, give the date and time of the incident and boom! traffic ticket in the mail.

  10. I was almost taken out by a driver rushing to take advantage of a break in traffic and turn left at a major intersection. I called the police but when they contacted the driver she lied and said that I had crossed against the light. Without a third party witness the cop wouldn’t issue a fine. A camera at that intersection might have helped.

  11. I would amend your time frame OB, to every 3 years. This would include a free driver’s evaluation by a strict test, covering everything from parallel parking, sign and road marking identification and a thorough scenario-based evaluation (like police situation trainers). If the driver passes everything…with i’d say a 95% success rate(if you cant parallel park or read signs/lane markings, automatic fail) then they pay for the test and their driver training/license again. that would REALLY sort out the bad drivers. also mandatory driver training…every 3 years as well.
