Even bike lanes can be dangerous, sidewalk is the safest.
Illegal yes, but the satisfaction we receive as we bike past motorists stuck in traffic is priceless.
I love it when people refer to themselves as ‘real cyclists’ when comparing themselves to other people on bicycles.
On the walk to work this morning i saw a guy talking on his phone while cycling. Is there a distracted cycling law? Come to think of it, a while back I saw a pedestrian on a phone come close to getting clipped by a car.. Maybe we need a distracted walking law.
How does one “road off?” Is this a technique employed by “real cyclists?”

I hit him with a real picture of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi in Greece (“Scenic European Sights”), a photo of Apollo in the Archaeological Museum at Athens and a silver tetradrachma featuring a portrait of – you guessed it, Apollo – from about 400BC (“My Old Coins”).

Some cyclists ride with impunity. They do what they want regardless of the law, bikes lanes, or whatever. The one I like best is a cyclist careens down a sidewalk and blast through a crosswalk. I’m just waiting for idiots like that to get squashed, or rather fired like a cannonball off the hood of a car.
Tell these “cyclists” that they can’t bike through Point Pleasant on weekends or holidays and see what kind of a reaction you get.
The M.O of LTWWB: whine and generalize. You’ve got bad cyclists and good ones. Same deal with trucks, SUVs, BMW-owners, etc. I see a fair share of horrible pedestrians (walking side by side, not sharing the sidewalk, etc). Welcome to life.
We need more enforcement of social norms, but we should also be encouraging people to walk, cycle, skateboard, rollerblade. Forget the environment – Canada is 6th or 7th in obesity rates in the world, not far behind the U.S. and Mexico. We need more people moving without the help of a gas-fired engine. I see no harm in allowing cyclists access to walkways provided that they yield to pedestrians (slow down, circle around, dismount in crowded areas). I’ll careen down sidewalks (when no one is on them) and blast through crosswalks (when no one is in them and when no cars are nearby) all I want.
And when you don’t look and become hamburger?

When the car you weren’t paying attention to hits you, you get fucking squished.
I’d wager a lot that cyclists are typically more aware than a motorist of the things around them- their lives depend on it, after all. I have no problem cruising through a crosswalk if there are no pedestrians nearby. If something is blocking my view of the traffic, then I dismount and walk through. I also never come to complete stops at stop signs. Many U.S. states have abolished such asinine laws anyway, given that they were never intended for cyclists. Stop signs are meant to discourage drivers from speeding in high traffic zones (residential neighbourhoods, commercial districts).
