To the older man at the crosswalk In downtown dartmouth the other day. Yes I saw you. You pressed the button pretty much as I was going through the crosswalk. I also saw you yell and shake your fist. It wasn’t safe for me to stop the car. I would have had to slam on my brakes! There was another cr right beside me as well who didn’t stop. I stop when it’s safe not when I’m already half way through the crosswalk. —Driver

This is what pisses me off about peds — they think just because they pressed that little button that you can just magically freeze your car exactly where it is so they can walk out.
Does he not realize that cars can’t stop on a dime?
Any idiot knows you press the button and THEN you wait for the cars to stop.
And even if a car does go through when they shouldn’t, I’d much rather be safe than be right.
Apparently the peds would like the cars to stop whenever someone is in the vicinity of a crosswalk, just in case they want to cross and do so without having to *gasp* wait for traffic to stop.
PK is right, the Ped has more control in the situation then the car, likely just a cranky old man.

i was in dartmouth not long ago, and had this idiot, speed up, when i hit the button. i wish i would have been alone at that time, i would have purposely walked into your fucking little green piece of shit car. turn your crap noise down, and fucking make sure you are not going to run over someone and a small child.

OP he made an example of you when you did nothing wrong and that’s too bad. But he’s probably just sick and tired of all those thugs (no offense to you dartmouth folks.. i know there are a handful of you who aren’t thugs) barreling through life with no thought whatsoever to who might be litigious.
i hate this!! Also a lot of peds. don’t usually look before they cross the street to. If I’m driving 50km which is the speed limit on city roads then I’m not going to slam on my breaks just for you to walk across the road. It takes you longer to walk then it does for me to pass.
This is probably the reason why so many drivers drive 30 km and always slow down as they come towards a cross walk… Which makes me furious!!!
Too many peds treat a crosswalk as an extended sidewalk. Peds are supposed to stop before entering a crosswalk and I don’t look too kindly on peds who don’t use a walk with the flashing light.
You should have hit him OB. Pesdestrians can be charged for failing to provide sufficient stopping distance for cars. The only bad news is that it takes a high pressure washer to wash all his blood and brain matter off your grill.
