What kind of idiotic people work for Metro Transit? You’d think one would be able to go work and about their business and not have to tolerate foolish behaviour from so-called professionals.

I was on the 52 last Tuesday afternoon when about 11 bus drivers got on heading to wherever. One particular driver from the moment they got on the bus gave me dirty looks and said things to his colleagues. Before the 16-minute bus ride ended he and two others indiscreetly made references to my attire implying that I was trying to dress like one of them and laughing amongst themselves. That same driver continued his asinine behaviour at the bridge terminal, staring at me with a sour look on his face.

Finally out of total impatience for his nonsense I said as he walked by “What?” He then stopped turned around and stepped up to me and stood right in front of me in a confrontational manner and said in a threatening tone “Don’t ever say another word to me.”

Well what do you expect? Now seriously, I’m not the type of person to bother anyone. But what kind of idiot sits there belittling someone he doesn’t know and continues it for 15 minutes and expects them to say nothing? You don’t know me dumbass I don’t care what you where told.

So when I ask “What’s wrong with you? Why do you keep staring at me like an idiot?” he replies, “Because you are an idiot.” I started at my job six years ago and have had been issued the clothes I wear. I can’t help the fact that my work wear almost matches theirs—last time I checked, blue shirts and pants are not strictly reserved for Metro Transit. And even if I wasn’t issued a uniform, I can wear what ever I damn well please. That does not give you or anybody the right to harass or ridicule me. Nobody deserves that. I can’t help that stupid people chose to be bothered by me. I don’t do anything to you. —A Grown-Up

  1. Do you work for a certain armoured car group?

Also – I’ve been on that bus a couple of times when leaving work early. The stories they tell, and the bitching is unreal.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the bus drivers I have on a regular basis – but some of them need a swift kick in the happy sacks.

  2. No point in reporting it to Metro Transit. Each time I have filed an official complaint with them, they came back and blamed me! Can you imagine! Thanks Metro Transit, I bought a car 🙂

  3. you should have continued the confrontation…to the point he got physical, as long as you didn’t get physical first… you’d have taken his job away. Which by the sounds of his behaviour, he needs a wake up call & a new job would be just the thing 😉
But when yer* a wimp & you let people push you around, people like him get to stay where they are, so grow a set of balls dude, or buy yer* own transportation .

    * yer = your or you’re…so now the spelling nazi’s can piss off , I’ve found a solution.

  4. The person needs to grow a pair of balls because they didn’t escalate the situation to the point where the driver physically hurt them? Let me ask you something, More. Do you think these things through before you say them?

  5. Yep pussy bitch . no balls to stand right up like a man/woman and state your case. Hey OP do you tend to look at the ground when you walk around .? That driver woulda got up on me like that all threatening he would have found himself getting a two handed shove right the fuck back where his ass came from .

  6. is it worth it to get into a dustup? most times. no…i am with mr.sugar and hog gives excellent advice, don’t look at your feet, chest out…look em in the eye

  7. could be maybe,ah, it is you that is/was being childish. seen too many fools get bent outta shape for no reason, then other times, these same assholes bitch about these workers doing nothing, see later bitch here.

  8. I remember well over a decade ago when transit decided that the “employee shuttle” running between the Bridge and bus barn needed to start bringging in revenue so they opened route #26 to the public. The drivers weren’t happy at all.

I suppose they weren’t real happy about having their private limo taken away and being forced onto the 52 either. Many of the men/women at transit are great but there are a few who don’t get it when it comes to being “good” passengers on a transit route.

If these bad apples are so desperate to be on a bus without any fare-paying passengers I’d suggest they take the Employee Coach that runs the operators to/from work before the service day and after the end of service at night.

Maybe more of the public will figure out that the “out of service” bus running from Mumford to the bus barn (via Highfield, Bridge, North St) is doing what essentially amounts to a late-night/early-morning route and should be open to those willing to pay the fare as well.

  9. Not to condone the driver’s behavior but this tough internet attitude some of you have is hilarious. I would bet money most of you so called “men” and “women” would have done no more than what the OP did. Maybe less.

  10. What the OP experienced was the result of a militant union whose membership knows that no driver can get fired regardless of how badly they behave. This is the main reason why Transit cannot ever be counted on to provide good service to the citizens of HRM.

  11. refinedsugar…absolutely.
There’s nothing that makes me happier than stirring the pot.
Having some asshole get all verbal & in my face , just gets me going & I can’t help myself.

Which is why I have my own business’s & was never able to work in service or anything like that. I tried when younger, but when you won’t take any shit off of anyone.
You won’t last long (or at least I never did)
But hey, whatever floats yer* boat dude, you like the taste of shit, then please keep on licking ass .

  12. Bo Gus – Metro Transit management could contract out new, not-yet-in the schedule services (ie. what they should have done with MetroX). The collective agreement only covers existing work which the employer is not yet operating under the current agreement.

They could have brought in FirstBus or another company with experience operating contracted-out public transit to operate and maintain the MetroX fleet, just like they used to do with Access-A-Bus but now that AAB and MetroX are driven and maintained by union members it has to stay that way. I’d like to see them get another service out there, be it an express to the airport or some rural routes with a use-specific fleet, give it a new name and contract it out.

Lets see if the private operator can give better service just for the heck of it. HRM can still own the buses but lets the contractor handle drivers and maintenance needs in a non-HRM shop.

  13. Bus drivers wear uniforms? Sheesh, I ride the Big White Slut everyday and never noticed. Actually, the fucking thing could be maneuvered by remote control for the attention I afford them on my daily commute.

  14. Trust me Broc i ain’t a internet tough guy – nor a tough guy . But i will if threaten by anyone stand my ground and likely might find my fist in your face if you think your gonna get one up on me . just sayin.

  15. Nicely said Weedhog.
THere are lots of decent people who don’t cause trouble. But won’t back down from some asshole who thinks their right to be a dick, superceeds the rights of everyone else around them.
You want to be a raging asshole…you have that right. You do not on the other hand, have the right to get in my face while doing it.

  16. And these idiots went on strike because getting paid 50 grand a year to drive a fucking bus was not sufficient. Yep. I am sure that is what most people aspire to. They dream to be able to dress like a bus driver *rolls eyes*

  17. I’d rather have a responsable person paid a decent wage to drive a busload of people around versus some low wage that guarantees the person behind the wheel is only there until something better comes along and doesn’t have any dedication to the job – a job which involves making sure the 50+ people sitting/standing behind them get to their destination safely.

Bobby33 should really look at what Stock Transportation’s low wages have done to the school board busing system. Out of 200 dedicated school bus drivers that came from the County payroll during out-sourcing of the busing, less than 40 of those drivers remain thanks to drastic pay cuts and cancellation of employer-paid benefits. The sad truth is that a person delivering bread or chips to the local corner store makes more than someone driving a bus full of students. Do we really want the same for the transit system?

  18. For those how refer to the bitcher as a bitch – what would you have done? yeah good idea, aggravate the idiot driver even more, and get into a physical confrontation – the drivee will still have his job in the end and the bitch would end up barred from the bus for six months for standing his/her ground. “totally worth it” You guys are funny but i like it. I think the bitcher is smart for not making the situation worse..
