What is it with our society, where you can label something to sell to someone in a store… in my case today juice as in grape juice. Yet when I read the label, it says water, apple juice concentrate, grape juice concentrate, pear juice, sucrose fructose, vitamin C, sulfites!!! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
I just want all natural 100% grape juice, every single juice in the store today was garbage similar to what l just described. Which doesn’t include the juice “drinks”, which I won’t list here, I can’t even pronounce nevermind spell the ingredients & all of the “drinks” should have hazard labels & NOT FOR CHILDREN on them because after water as an ingredient, number 2 is SUGAR!
But even the frozen concentrates are filled with additives, vitamin C (which occurs naturally and is readily available as a vitamin pill/chewable & doesn’t need to be added in the damn juice). Those blend juices like pomegranate blueberry, has apple & pear & god knows what else in it along with enough preservative & vitamins to seriously harm a small child in a 2 litre container! I found one name brand orange juice, just 1 that isn’t from concentrate & has no other additive in it. 1 juice out of at least 50 different kinds & more than a dozen different brands that say ORANGE JUICE… every other type has additives including colour… why? I’ve squeezed fresh orange juice before, it has a natural colour! I’ve helped crush grapes & that juice has colour as well. Why add purple #5?
This trying to eat healthy, trying to cut down on artificial sweeteners, sugar, chemicals, additive sulfates & sodium & additional vitamins is unbelievably TOUGH. There ought to be a law that if you’re selling grape juice, that’s all that is allowed in it. Anything else & you by law have to call it SWAMP JUICE or BOG WATER, TOILET BOWL SURPRISE… I don’t care what it is named as long as it isn’t in the juice aisle & it isn’t labeled JUICE! DAMN IT, this mislabeled stuff is poison & there almost nothing else available! —More Fun God Bless

This country has a shocking amount of chemical in food and drink. And with the increase of these chemicals, we have seen an increase of mysterious diseases, both mental and physical.
And with the increase in the diseases, there has been an increase of drugs to treat these diseases. And an increase of doctors prescribing these drugs.
Diabetes. Depression. Random chronic pain. Cancer. Obesity. They’re huge industries, eh?
I mean look at diet food alone.. Diet food is high in sugar and salt which are huge culprits in weight management. So in the short term, the consumer loses a pound or two and then piles it back on, either from eating this garbage itself or this food not meeting basic nutritional requirements and causing the consumer to binge from lack of essential vitamins and minerals. And over and over the media blames the consumer.
The fattest people around here have a disturbing color and quality to their skin. It is malnutrition. You don’t have to be skinny to be malnourished.
It’s quite disturbing. In the extreme. because it’s a systematic master plan to get people on a cycle of being poisoned and then treating the poisoning with more poison. And never knowing it.
I have traveled around the world and if you can afford to eat, you eat well. I feel healthiest when i am eating food outside of north america.
Here is the harsh reality. If you buy food already pre-made for you, you are eating an unhealthy amount of chemicals, salt and sugar. That is 100% the case, whether you get it in a health food section or not.
The secret? Buy the closest thing to the basic elements of food possible. Grow your own if you can manage that. Cook from scratch. And yes. It’s a lot more work. But those are your choices in this country.
Just because you can’t pronounce it, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad for you. And yes there is a difference between a fruit drink (usually 10% juice) and a fruit juice. Also remember there is a hell of a lot of sugar (fructose) in pure fruit juices and fruit.
you’re trying to eat and drink healthy and you’re running to juice?
even the 100% juice is still all fructose… ie. sugar + water.
if it’s healthy you want, drop the juice altogether and drink lone water.
It’s soooo refreshing when it’s nice n cold.
I’d love to see some stats on cancer numbers versus population numbers and stats on age of those being affected by cancers.
… because I have a sneaking suspicion that cancer numbers are going up while the population goes up and because the population tends to live longer than before… average life expectancy at one point was 60 years… My dad’s 66 and nowhere NEAR circling the drain… Infant mortality rates are down… people are reaching adulthood in larger numbers… I dunno, I think there are a lot more factors at play here than simply stating all these ‘chemicals’ are killing us… I mean, some of these ‘chemicals’ have fancy sounding names, but they’re natural ingredients.
And if any ‘ose’ is least shitty for you, it’s fructose because it’s sugar that tends to come from fruit. Nothin’ wrong with eatin’ a piece of fruit (that being said, eating an orange is much better than drinking some orange juice — in its pure form or not).
zzz , the doctor says having a glass of juice in the morning is fine. I have found that 100% orange juice bothers my stomach…too much acidity. So I’m looking for a juice I can have in the morning that isn’t as acidic.
I already drink several bottles of water a day. its boring & natural sugars in juice are better for you than factory made ! I don’t use sugar in my coffee or tea. I don’t even own a salt shaker, nor is there someone elses in my home. I have been gardening for years , but I can’t grow everything I would like to have. I really don’t believe it should be such a big deal to get a glass of grape juice, or any other type of juice, like apple, yet even most of those have garbage in them.
also, vitamin C is water soluble so you’ll easily and readily release the rest painlessly…
unless you have an STI.
I know that if you’re looking for decent juice, avoid all phosphates…
they’re preservatives and will kill the yeast you add to the juice if you want to make cheap hooch. nothing like 18% welches grape juice. 🙂

yeah o.p., you should watch the doctor’s sometime. how about all that shit in just bread. then you have arsenic in apple juice, and fuck knows what is in your proceesed meats. that’s why i buy from someone i know, and trust. no fucking bunch of sht, just pure whatever.
Why do you care what chemicals are in your food LS? Don’t you smoke?
I was gonna say, Mel… I’m sure whatever damage LS is doing from all the smoking is making his endeavours in eating well kind of moot.
I don’t even know where to begin with this…
More…if you haven’t already, try this stuff:
http://www.tropicana.com/#/trop_products/p…
According to the nutrional label on this site, the only ingredients added to the low acid juice is calcium citrate, (derived from citric acid = natural), beta-carotene, (natural anti-oxidant) and ascorbic acid (organic compound and form of vitamin C. Humans require it as part of our nutrition.)
Fun fact: Ascorbic is derived from a- (meaning “no”) and scorbutus(scurvy).
I find even just the regular stuff to be far superior to both quality and taste to any other OJ on the market. Ingredients of the regular stuff is 100% pure and natural orange juice. That’s it.
More, I’ve found the same as well…
first in the morning, orange or apple juice on an empty stomach will not only spike insulin levels, but feels weighty and highly acidic/heartburnish alone….
I know a lot of people who also have trouble with milk…
I’m pretty sure it’s because you’re in your keytonic state from not eating for the previous several hours and so going straight sugar water, be it milk or juice, really overhauls the system in a complete 180. They do have low or reduced acid OJ….
but in my experience, I just avoid it all full stop. I’m a human water filter… I enjoy at least a gallon of water every day easily…
anyways, I guess what I’m getting at is that you can’t have your morning sugar-water and enjoy it too…. unless you get some fibrous food in there (like cereal or granola bars) to slow the absorption.
or you can cut your morning OJ with a double shot of vodka do dilute it and add a little ‘flavor’. Same with milk… and kahlua.
morning treats are smoooooooooth.
coffee and baileys…..nom nom nom nom
what i eat, and smoke, or not, has nothing to do with anything. the bitcher is right tho, there are far too many things in everyday food.even the so called organic shit. i would grow my own, if i had a place to do so. there is a much better flavor to it. mel, do you really care about my health, dear girl, i think i love you, you too kitty babe. but i am who and what i am, an enigma.
actually cold water congeals fat in the stomach.
Drink it room temperature or hotter for better results. When you’re not eating, drink it cold. When you’re eating drink it warm.
Zed is correct — high fructose in your system in the morning spikes your insulin levels and makes you hungry. Bananas are actually one of the worst things to eat in the morning.
I had a hard time with milk until I had my gall bladder out. I still can’t eat yogurt, though, which really sucks because I <3 yogurt!
Also: humans can actually have a spurt of glycogen in their system while they sleep — around 2-3-4 am. That’s why sometimes your sugars are typically high normal in the morning (for non diabetics).
I always eat a snack before bed to counteract the sugar low (because it can be severely low for me) and I notice that eating crackers or a PB&J toast before bed puts my sugars in the 4 range in the morning as opposed to the 6-7 range.
it may not seem like the tastiest late night treat but a sweet potato would have you waking up feeling like a million bucks…. or a casein supplement shake.
The yam is cheaper but they don’t make em in chocolate flavor.
I used to have a wicked intolerance to casein. Whey and casein. It was awful.
And I used to be able to eat sweet potatoes.
Now I can tolerate casein and whey (to a point) and I can’t tolerate yams anymore.
I can’t eat anything anymore 🙁 Potato skins and blueberries are the latest on the ‘hit list’ of crap PK can’t eat.
It’s actually easier to list the things I CAN eat rather than the things I can’t.
FML.
Thanks for the advice, I start my mornings with a yogurt & a juice or I make a smoothie. If I’m not off to work early I’ll have an egg I’ve had some stomach trouble & for months have been eating small portions I try to eat the 5 times a day as advised by the Doc…but its hard especially when on the job & there’s nothing available but fast food…which I rarely eat. Last nights supper was roast & carrot/turnip smash roast potato & gravy with brocoli steamed. This is what I am used to eating. I eat fresh fruit, I rarely eat chocolate any more I never drink dairy, I get it from butter, cheeses, yogurt I buy free range beef, chicken & grow all my own salsa & tomato sauce stewed tomato. I also grow fresh herbs, I dry herbs from our garden. When I have pizza I make it myself. We make most of our foods ourselves, including making most of our breads.
But as I’m getting older I’m trying to watch all the stuff I eat & getting away from chemicals , salt & additives is almost impossible, unless you buy nothing but raw veggies & meats & what is in Feed lot meat is as terrifying as what’s in packaged ready to eat stuff ( I won’t call that garbage food)
Petty K, sorry to hear about your problems with foods I feel for you ,I truely do. IT sucks to have to watch everything you put in your mouth & blueberries have always been a weakness of mine. FYI,my blueberry bushes are looking fine so far & I should have a nice crop this year. I’m going to try to make home made blueberry preserves so I have something all natural (besides honey)for my toast next winter.
I agree, Ella. They found out ADHD is caused by the red and green dyes in juices. Those sugary fruit punch drinks are made of artificial colors that make peoples brains go haywire. And kids live on that stuff. Parents think its ok and buy it because some marketing wiz writes vitamin C on the box. Then all of a sudden their kid’s teacher says he is acting silly in class and BOOM kid is given a label for life and a lifetime prescription of Ritalin
All this jibber jabber. Just buy a juicer and bag of grapes, OB. Sheesh.
I was just curious LS 😛 My dad is the same way, he watches what he eats and likes to lecture me about chemicals but he smokes. He used to smoke in the house when I lived with him and now that I live on my own I don’t get bronchitis all the time ;D Shocking.
Anyway, I also can’t seem to eat a god damn thing. I really try to eliminate processed food from my diet as eating “real” food seems to upset my body less but there isn’t much out there at the grocery store. I can’t even eat lettuce FFS! I know of certain restaurants that don’t bother me but it’s kinda hard to eat at restaurants for every single meal. I like Pete’s, they have a lot of things that don’t have unnecessary chemicals in them but it’s really expensive to buy alllll of my groceries there. I didn’t even realize that spices, like Clubhouse spices have a bunch of chemicals in them! Bleh
Bro Tim brought up a good point, some of these “juices” are actually fruit drinks and are no better than pop. I’m not a nutritionist but the only advice I can give is read labels and try to make an informed decision. I tend to drink water or milk or coffee or hot chocolate or smoothies.
Eat a biscuit!
Mel – I have a severe allergy to man-made preservatives, and I have no problem finding “real” food. Want to go grocery shopping sometime?
Lol – Biscuit, I see what you did there 😉
What foods do you eat Hugo?
Hey Mel, I’ll eat most anything that doesn’t come out of a frozen cardbard box. Meat, seafood, poultry, rice, pasta, salads, etc…
I stay away from potato chips, frozen pizza, white/bleached rice, bread & pasta, and anything that even remotely resembles a Twinky (pure posion to me).
I prefer fresh food that I can prepare myself.
so, do you eat pasta or not^^i know you like caesar salad with grilled chicken…me too
mmmmmmmmmmmmm, twinkies…
holy shit, it has to be over a decade since I’ve mowed down on one of those succulent treats.
I bought that whole wheat pasta, and that stuff is garbage. Also the rice pasta turned into a congealed mess…but I may have overcooked it. I stick with the regular stuff, Barilla brand is the best…just only do pasta once a month. Carbs are so evil to my ASS
pg – Yes I eat pasta. Whole grain, or a brand that advertises “no preservatives”.
I will not, cannot, eat canned or frozen pasta, so Zoodles and hot dogs are off the menu.
Actually the croutons in the Cesar Salad probably had preservatives in them, but it was such a small amount that a single serving didn’t bother me.
I usually only eat Ceasar salad in the summer, when I can go out and take a head out of the garden. I seen a program on factory farm raised California lettuce & it was Romaine….can’t remember buying one since then… but I/we always make our own croutons…virgin olive oil fresh minced garlic, ground peppercorns toasted in the oven mmmmmmm the smell alone is worth the effort.
Homemade crotons…yum, yum. Last time I made them, I had to do a doubble batch, I ate most (quality control of course) before they made it anywhere near the salad.
Hugo, they are like chips or peanuts !
You can’t just sample one
I like using several different breads , then you have to check out more than 1 ~:)
like when you cook some really good bacon, you better hide it or use it in something, quickly. the hound, leaves drool puddles on the floor, turkey does the same thing to him. lately, we’ve been snarfing pistachios, luckily i have good thumb nails
Our old tom, Hubert, (also known as The Hamwort) used to orbit about my feet when I was making my sammiches. The Countess thinks she wants to sample our food; she sits in front of us and yowls at mealtimes, but any morsels are sniffed at with suspicion and then ignored. I think she’s just ticked that we are paying attention to something other than her divine self.
Oh God Bacon!!! – http://blog.craftzine.com/bacon-starry-nig…
Brother’s has the best smoked bacon…EVER!!!.
nofool exactly what study/studies have been done to conclude that food dyes cause ADHD? There are some concerns it MAY cause problems in SOME children, but NOTHING has been proven.
