as for calling in sick, I made a lot of extra money in the days of retail. Lived above the store I worked at so I was always first call for the sickies. 🙂

As unfortunate and as annoying as that is, you have to take it OP. Did you get double time for your troubles? Hopefully. I like to think that the practices of some of these inconsiderate people will eventually catch up with them. This is all under the assumption that the person in question wasn’t really sick.
How do we know the sicky didn’t have the intention of coming in until realizing at the last moment he/she was going to infect the group. The sicky might have a weak immunity. Or maybe got to the last level of super mario bros and had to finish. I’ve done that before.
or sicky couldn’t get approved for the day off so took it sick instead?
