I moved to Halifax a couple of years ago and for the most part like it here. However one thing I do NOT like are the cabs, or lack of, in this city. I live in Dartmouth and enjoy going downtown now and then. My wife and I will try and do the responsible thing and drive over and if we drink leave our car there (we have 2 cars so we will take the other over the next day to pick it up). But just TRY getting a fucking cab!!! You wait and wait and wait, even after calling. Trying to get a cab if you are in Dartmouth late at night is even worse. They do not even answer their fucking phone over there! The cops wonder why people drink and drive? One reason is cabs. You are drunk and in no position to make a rational decision or judgement. You wait for a cab for a half hour and then finally just say “Fuck It” and get in your car and drive home. We have got to teh point where we do not even go out anymore. It is just not worth it.

Agreed. Late night transportation in Halifax is a pain in the ass. I’m glad I lived downtown in my drinkin’ days so I could walk everywhere. The only parking I had to worry about was which barstool to park my ass on.
Please don’t make excuses for drinking and driving. For fuck’s sake.
i agree that at times it sucks. But half an hr is a SHORT wait compared to some.
Not to mention the outrageous cost, and some times its “just to far” and they wont even take you. cabs here are a joke.
Transportation in general is shit. Half the sidewalks are closed because of construction, the buses don’t start early enough, or run late enough, cabs are a pain in the ass to get, and when you DO get one, they won’t take you to where you want to go.
I’ve actually had a few cab drivers in Halifax saying they wouldn’t drive me to Dartmouth. FUCK YOU! That’s $20 you jus missed out on douche fucker
LANG: I don’t think it’s so much an “excuse” jus drunk people’s reasoning… Or lack thereof
i couldnt not agree more!!! the cabs on the dartmouth side neevr pick up and halifax side neevr shows up!
Lang- I am the OP and I am not making excuses for drinking and driving. There is NO excuse. What I am saying is that in these situations I can see how people do it. Best thing to do is just to leave the keys at home, thus no temptation when you are too drunk to make an intelligent decision while getting fed up waiting. To “justsayin”- I agree. Half hour is not bad. But we have stood outside for hours in the winter trying to get a cab. It is beyond ridiculous.
Cabs in this city do suck.
It’s hard to get one, they won’t take you anywhere outside of the peninsula (which is illegal to refuse people), don’t give you your proper change, don’t turn off their roof lights, etc.
It’s ridiculous outside a club at closing time the number of people trying to get a cab. They should be lined up and waiting.
Call Steve Adams, he’s the Taxi Guru.
Wow. Seriously trying to justify drinking and driving? You’re scum. Don’t drink and go downtown you fucking fool if you don’t want to wait a half hour for a fucking cab to get home. Ever think that every drunk retard in the city is looking for a cab at those hours? Cab companies are not going to overstaff and throw out assloads of money just to be adquately staffed on 2 nights of the week.
‘thus no temptation when you are too drunk to make an intelligent decision while getting fed up waiting’
Are you for real? Jesus Christ!
The situation here in Dartmouth would be better methinks if there was more than one cab company. I could be wrong though.
Don’t use the taxis, and definitely don’t tip them.
true, stopped going to xmas party’s,cuz you can’t get a fuckin cab in this town.
don’t even bother with new years.
and the cost is not an issue.
after 6$ beers, a cab is a bargain.
get me home, i’ll give ya 30$…i’ll give you 10 just to answer the fuckin phone!
