I read this twice. Why, you ask? Well, it sounds A little funny to me. See, the person who littered threw the coffee into the the street twice. I’m no physicist, but I can tell you, when I throw a half-full Tim’s cup in the garbage, the coffee spills everywhere. So, if the the coffee cup was tossed out the door, again, something else that’s typically not normal, the coffee would have spilled out on the first attempt. So, what, did the OP fill it back up with coffee to spill on the windshield? I call shenanigans. At the the coffee spilling over the windshield is a massive lie.

I agree with the getting stabbed for looking sideways thing. In Halifax and Dartmouth, people are TOUCHY ASSHOLES, especially the younger people. More than five times in this city, I have been verbally attacked, for looking at groups of people standing at the bus stops, sitting on a bus, in the mall, in the halls when I attended school, etc etc etc. Everyone here is like the rhyme about the little girl: When we’re good, we’re very, very good, but when we are bad, we are HORRID.

I believe kay is referring to one case where, in Bedford a few months ago, some dude looked at some kids funny and got assaulted. I’m generally a curious, people-watching kind of guy and this has never happened to me in Halifax, but it has in Vancouver. Loads of sketchy motherfuckers in VanCity! Statistics prove that it’s a much more violent and crime-filled city than Halifax, too. Surrey is pretty fucked too and makes Dartmouth look like a daycare.
The other day a young kid walking ahead of me threw his Timmies garbage on the street. I picked it up, tapped his shoulder and said “Hey bud, I think you dropped this. There’s a garbage can on the corner.” He looked at me like I was insane but he put it in the trash! And he didn’t stab me, either.

While I’m also skeptical about whether OP actually did this, it IS possible to stand up against littering without starting a fistfight. Do what I do – pick it up, and sweetly return it to the person saying “Oh, you dropped this” as if they’d done it by accident. In my experience people are so suprised and embarrassed they go along with the charade, take it back, say thanks, and hurry on their way. Passive-Aggressive, but also effective.
