I am very paranoid of bed bugs in Halifax apartments! I checked all over the internet last May (a certain bed-bug warning website that had pinpointed places on maps) before I moved into a 10-floor apartment in the southern point of the south end. I have come to find out it is quite a shitty decrepit building that has ant problems, mould and I am sure will have an infestation of something else come May since the water sprinklers broke on the top floor and water bucketed out soaking and flooding the floors below it.

Yesterday, I found a bug crawling on my carpet. The bug reminded me of a tick but I thought it looked like a frigging bed bug. I squished it to smithereens and was in denial thinking I was just paranoid. This morning I forgot to put my water filter container back into the fridge and so it was sitting on my coffee table. I grabbed a clean clear glass from the drying tray beside my sink and inspected it to make sure it was good to go. I poured the water from the container into the glass and saw a frigging thing float around…It looked identical to the bug I squished yesterday! This one is dead but intact.

GAHHH! Any suggestions? Or if you know what place I am talking about are you having any issues with bugs?

I am getting the hell out of this apartment in May, but can’t stand the thought that it could be a bed bug infestation happening right now! —Creepy-Crawlied Out

  1. From what I understand, bed bugs are usually found in beds, sofas, clothing… etc. Not in water glasses. Check your mattress, especially around the seam, for bed bug carcasses and poop. You can also check for any small droplets of blood in these area as well.

I’m willing to bet you have another kind of bug in your life but you can’t be too careful with these bedbugs.

  2. stop squishing it and take it intact to someone who can identify it.
identify the bug and identify the issue.

  3. did somebody say Landlord Tenant Tribunal? Oh, I guess you have to file a complaint with your landlord in writing before the courts can order clean-up and maintenance. This is why we LTWWB. Write a letter but post it to the landlord this time. Bed bugs love that!

  4. Hooray for bedbugs! Try breeding them and spreading them to other apartments in Halifax. Glad I own my own house, which is rat, mouse, pigeon, cockroach, and bedbug free.

  5. If you don’t properly get your stuff sprayed and get the bug problem taken care of before you move into your new place, the problem will just stick with you.

A LOT of people with bed bugs end up having to get rid of all their stuff.

It wouldn’t be fair to the other tenants of the new building you’re moving into to bring your bug problem into the building because those creepy little fucks spread like maggots.

  6. I’ve had to deal with bedbugs TWICE! Little fucking bastards. Clever critters, though. Bites all over me. Didn’t have to get rid of all my stuff though, just wash it all in hot water.

Call the Orkin man! (or woman).

  7. here we go again, if people don’t want these fucking things, don’t move into high rises. seems over half of them in halisucks and some in darkside have them. i was lucky to find place i live, 3 floors, security on every floor, and a fairly quiet area, without a lot of bullshit going on. of course some of the quiet is due to my meanness. but the people who occupy both our buildings are cool with the ways things are. and 600 month for a two b.r., helps too.

  8. So where *is* this magic utopia of cheap quietness, LS? You mentioned fairview, but what part/street? There are some sketchy streets in the ‘view.

  9. mail me kitty, and i will give you the addy. the owner is putting in new arpets in two units as i write this. gary_more@hotmail.com ,600 a month, plus damage deposit, pay own lights and cable.power is normally about 75 bucks every two months, or depending on how much you use. i got full teir aliant with pvr, 125 monthly. the building i’m in, is pretty well kept up, and respectible. some young, some older.and one child, in basement, of about 5-6 months old. cute little thing.there is one basement here, and one second floor in other building across the driveway.

  10. lower end of evans, the nice quiet area q., i would never live on dawn st., for all the money or pussy in the world.

  11. I don’t know but I agree with the previous person’s response to NEVER move into Halifax high rises again.

There are too many people in them.

Too many people = too much filth and garbage = cockroaches.

Too many students = picking their furniture up on the side of the road = bed bugs

    ETC ETC

Ugh! I wish people had some decency and cleanliness
