Has anyone watched Bananas! A film DOLE doesn’t want you to see? It is available on Netflix. Did the workers get any financial compensation? Any protective gear? Any work clothing? Is it legal for a US company to have the workers work without boots, without gloves, without masks—without any protective gear? Is it legal for a US company to have the workers work and sleep in contact with pesticides 24 hours a day? Anyone know the answer? Thank you. —Well Wisher

  1. Have you ever seen “Woody Allen’s Bananas! – A film BOB DOLE doesn’t want you to see” ?
It was sorta funny except for the nervous little Jewish guy who ruined every scene he was in.

  2. Is it legal for a US company to have the workers work without boots, without gloves, without masks—without any protective gear? Is it legal for a US company to have the workers work and sleep in contact with pesticides 24 hours a day?

The answer to both questions is yes. And they’re conducting business in a foreign country, under a foreign country’s law system that probably doesn’t require this.

Please do not be so naive the next time.

  3. um, it’s legal for them to abduct you, hold you indefinitely without charging you…
basically making you disappear into thin air to anyone around you.

    this surprises me not.

“Oh my god, Brian! I was watching something on TV about this guy named Hitler. Somebody should stop him!”

You could always take in the nude bike ride. That’ll put you off bananas quicker than any Naomi Klein powerpoint lecture ever could. The greatest thing to happen to dickie-waving pervos since Moms started posting pictures of their kids on facebook.

  5. o.p., when you speak of the u.s. of assholes, they can do anything they damn well want to. remember, this is the big brother country there, and if you don’t like it, you will find yourself in a place like cuba. and not on a vacation.
they have no real rules for anything, except what the gubment wants, and that’s the final word there. if you ain’t wit them, then you are agin them, remember that little speak by herr bush awhile back?

  6. ivan, i’m surprised you did not notice the reffernce to adolph there. herr, as in mr., master, or even emporer.

  7. Oh I saw it Suckster. I just wanted an excuse to post a link to the Venus d’Beltway >; )

  8. nothing new here… walt disney, nike, do the same thing…. they all exploit workers in 3rd world countries. It is exploitation to have these children leave school to earn pennies a day in sweatshops – ultimately it becomes genocide…like in Indonesia, where Nike’s main factory resides and 5 year olds sew sneakers for 2 cents a day….sneakers which sell for over a hundred bucks. It shouldn’t be allowed but these fortune 500 companies still do it, their overhead is so low, they pay a tiny bit for materials, even less for wages and they make almost 100% profit— meanwhile North Americans are jobless.

  9. You hit the nail on the head no_fool.
I haven’t seen the “bananas” flick but it really wouldn’t surprise me if those facts were true. How about Chiquita? Hopefully not the same story. There aren’t any local suppliers of bananas.

  10. I dunno Trood – I find the locally grown bananas taste a helluva lot like corn.
    *Stolen from Derek Edwards.

  11. Speaking of working conditions; Frontline did an expose on the guys who install/erect cell towers, the accident and fatality rate is 10 times the normal for construction workers due to the pressure to work harder and faster.

  12. Believe it or not folks, even Canadian companies do the same thing. So if you’re going to bitch about the Yanks be prepared to bitch about the Canucks.

  13. Just got back from barStucks where I stood in line behind a pair of the cayuuuutest Japanese girls, in pigtails and short, short skirts. I mean really, it was like a Sailor Moon episode come to life! If I’d had my traveling chloroform kit with me, Orgasmatron’s B-day present would be “in the bag” – so to speak. >; )

*Disclaimer – I do not in any way advocate the kidnapping and forcible confinement of young Asian women. Thanks to bloody Affirmative Action legislation, my dungeon has to , and I quote, “reflect a diversity congruent with the current demographics of Canadian society” unquote,
    Got-dang gubbmint. (shakes fist)

Also – Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuchinos FUCKING RAWK!

  14. speaking of corn, just got back from ssyoung and they had corn from venezuela. i didn’t buy any but my ma grew up there and doesn’t recall eating corn. if some bitch could buy some and check it out, i’d be most grateful^^

  15. Heh Heh – SOBova archly congratulated me on keeping my “Inner Japanese Businessman” under control, when I told her about them. What a cut-up she is. >: )
