I am fed the eff up with healthcare in this godforsaken province! I am a 30-year-old woman who is facing losing her job because I have a chronic illness. An illness that requires a procedure for official diagnosis to get the treatment required to live day-to-day. Guess what? IT IS A FREAKING TWO-YEAR WAIT LIST to see GI and get a colonoscopy! That is insane. That is not okay and it is wrong. There is no option for me to pay someone to have the procedure done even if I COULD afford it, so I have to sit here and rot for two years. I have to give up my job I love because I just cannot do it from the effing toilet now can I?! This is a real piss off. I am sure there are people much sicker then I am waiting for these things. Yes it is AWESOME it is free…but what is the point if during the wait period someone dies or has zero quality of life? I just can’t take this anymore! —ShitterisFULL!

No, it’s not a two year wait. It’s just a scope – a routine test. Either you’re confused or exaggerating. Next…?
Took me five years in the system to get knee replacements and ten years for a breast reduction so two years seems like a sweet wait.
Definite BS; 3 months tops for the scope.
Also (and unfortunately), 12 months for gallbladder removal (tops, I’m told).
I don’t think it’s BS. If you look at the NS wait times website it states it could be up to 727 days (about 2 years). That said, about 50% of people get in within 104 days, so it’s likely they’ll get in sooner than they think. Wait times in this province are horrid, regardless of the procedure.
This is what happens in a bloated, highly in debt socialist medical system. Those in charged are more concerned with their little fiefdoms than to run a well run medical system.
Check out “novascotia.ca/dhw/physicians” and call the toll-free number for the area you reside in, select the option to contact the medical executive director for that zone. They may be able to provide information you currently may not have. Have you considered seeing a naturopath? Also, if/when possible, note when you have symptoms, severity and what was happening that hour, day, etc. By journaling, you may start to notice some patterns. This information may be helpful for when you meet with the doctor. It is possible that there is something in your environment that is compounding the severity of the underlying condition. Lastly, invest in what helps to encourage yourself. All the best with this!
When i get that procedure done the doc’s ask if i want to watch it on T.V. Hell NO!! You have the wrong channel on, i asked for Discovery channel, not Anal Discovery channel.
Really excited the coast published this online and in the paper. Thank you @viva for your kind words. I was told by my GP that it is a two year wait to get into GI. They are very backed up in that department so there is an extensive wait. She was able to go around this by finding me a general surgeon in Truro. Given my situation she could get me into him in a few months time. This is better. The wait times are rough and I am frustrated. Being in pain sucks, especially if there is a treatment that could help me but waiting years for the tests are really a roadblock.
“…very backed up in that department…”
This is why I love the comments…
i am also confused as to why the wait is so long for you? i had GI and Endoscopy in less than a week after seeing a specialist with a minimal wait for the specialist as well.
