$73.50/ hr is Rodney MacDonald’s wage? Does he pay taxes? How much? (I know, I could search for the answer by googling). I think the highest hourly rates should have been gone to Metro/LINK bus drivers/mechanics and garbage-related works. What do you people think? Hopefully, groups are protesting Rodney’s way-too-high rate. Hopefully, next term someone eligible for the high rate will be elected for the post.

  1. So Rodney MacDonald makes roughly $140,000 a year- big deal! He is the Premier of Nova Scotia. If you want to get pissed off about salaries, why not worry about people like the CEO of RBC who paid himself 14.5 million last year….just a thought. Oh, and I don’t think bus drivers and garbage collectors deserve to have the highest hourly rates, though they do deserve to be compensated adequately, they are no more deserving of fair pay than a Wal Mart employee or a coffee shop worker or a retail employee (many who are forced to live below the poverty line). Fortunately for bus drivers and garbage collectors, unions usually protect them from making wages as low as other service industry employees.

  2. He doesn’t have an hourly rate, he’s on a salary. It may work out to that much if he works the standard 40 hrs a week but guess what… he’s the one ultimately responsible for the province. You think he actually works 9 to 5? Don’t be ridiculous. And aside from that, he’s not paid to fill in hours, he’s paid to make decisions and be the face for Nova Scotia. You don’t need to agree with what he’s doing, but what he’s making is probably below standard for what he’s doing. The way the real world works is that people generally get paid on a basis of what they’re responsible for, not how hard they work. And having done both dirty blue collar factory jobs and manager jobs, you work hard at both of them. At least when I was slinging concrete and asphalt the job was done when the work day was.

  3. Pete, you’re right… I based it on a 40 hour work week and he probably does work more than that. Not that I like the guy or would have voted for him, I imagine the job is pretty stressful…Matt, maybe you don’t pay the salary of the RBC CEO, but if you bank anywhere else, you’re paying for what is likely that bank’s overpaid CEO. All of those bastards are the same- as much as I wish I earned what they earn! In all honesty though, I enjoy reading your posts these days… 🙂
