No Bodies

Garage-country-psych No Bodies didn’t stick to its guns, but that’s not so bad.

The band’s founding members, Craig Hamlin (Fat Stupids, Whiskey Kisses) and James O’Toole (Outtacontroller), planned originally to only be a recording project. Thankfully the pair caved, playing their first show at this year’s OBEY Convention.

“We currently have Justin Crowe [Pig, The Age] playing drums and Keith McFadden [Astral Gunk, Best Fiends] playing bass,” says O’Toole. No Bodies’ debut EP, on Poncho Records, is out of this world, the result of three years of jamming.

“James asked if I wanted to do a psych- influenced recording session with him. I always had enjoyed that genre so I felt like it would be a good thing to do,” says Hamlin. “In terms of songwriting, all my songs were composed and fit with lyrics in about an hour. Sometimes songs write themselves very quickly and this was the case for me; a nice circumstance.”

And where will you be able to next experience Halifax’s answer to the Flying Burrito Brothers? Someone’s house, probably. “We will probably play again in town this summer; likely to be a house show though, just more fun and fitting for this kind of music.” Well, there’s always the internet.
