“There’s not many hardcore bands in the city right now, and the ones that do exist, most of Never Human is already in a bunch of them,” says Cody Googoo, guitarist of the new noise hardcore band. “And each have their own special style or twist or whatever.” Flanked by Dexter Outhit (vocals), Ben Radford (drums and album art creator) and Jono Whittle (bass), Googoo describes Never Human as “a raw hardcore punk band” that wanted a crazy vocalist with a powerful stage presence, “and, well, that’s Dex.” Never Human put out a seven-track demo in January, recorded with Luke Mumford in his basement on Union Street, which Googoo says was a “super quick and easy” process. The band will be featured on an east coast hardcore compilation put together by Newfoundland’s Rob Forward and hopes to put out another tape before Whittle leaves for the summer, which will halt the band’s output (but you can still catch them all in their other bands). Googoo’s favourite non-human things include his skateboard, his alien girlfriend and records.
