Feist
Sunday January 15 at The Marquee Club
Although sold out, the Feist show felt intimate and perfect for an all-ages Sunday performance where attendees ranged in agefrom eight to 80. The charismatic singer and her three-piece band performed mostly the same set as the night before, with highlights being a groove-filled version of “When I Was a Young Girl” and Nova Scotia favourite “Mushaboom.” Other songs included Ron Sexsmith and Kings of Convenience covers as well as several new pieces. “I’m glad that none of you are drinking right now,” she remarked halfway through. “Not that it was bad last night… It’s just that this is more about the listening.” And listen we did. Feist kept her unique voice front and centre. Several numbers consisted of a guitar and a voice sampler, building a chorus of Feists behind her. “I can’t believe that sound comes out of a human,” one awestruck concert-goer exclaimed. An encore ended with renditions of “Let it Die” and “Inside and Out,” closing a moving spectacle that proved the accolades bestowed upon this chanteuse were spot on.
