Talk to anybody in places like Timberlea. They’re closer to the city than most of Dartmouth, meanwhile they get a “community” office of the RCMP served by the main detachment in Tantallon. What’s worse is that they’re actually fighting over who has to serve Prospect Road. Seriously.
Whats fucked up is Sambro and their ATV hooligans are serviced by the Tantallon detachment. I don’t see it getting better if the HRM has to police it, thats for sure.
i’m seriously wondering if Peter Kelly has lost it this time. First cats, then vending machines now no RCMP. If they get rid of the RCMP here in Eastern Passage I am moving out of the HRM. The town clowns are useless wannabes that couldn’t make it INTO the RCMP
Uncle Frank, Cousin Chris and the rest of HRP management are trying to expand their bureaucratic empre. This is simply a turf war and has nothing to do with policing. Sadly, HRP has the ability to lowball their estimates now in order to get the decision to go their way, then watch out… within a year or two the budget shortfalls will appear and taxpayers will take it in the neck again.
Let’s see RCMP are an organization that kill innocent people…yet we need them !
Halifax Police, another group of thugs, who do as much harm as good & we also need them !
Seems we’re damned if we do & damned if we don’t .
So let’s do without them & try something new.
The way I look at it, one group of control freaks or the other group of control freaks…isn’t actually a choice.
BUT
What is a choice , is one group cheaper than the other ?
THat’s all that is truely important to me !
Why is it that people think the RCMP is a mythical group of greatness. The training of the majority of police officers in this country is standardized. Now if you went back 30+ I would say it was different.
This idea that a cop in DT Hfx or Dart would respond to an incident in Sheet Harbour, etc is inane. There would be detachments in the outlying areas (most likely the present RCMP ones) where officers would report for duty as they would in the city, between the Halifax and Dartmouth stations.
As for cars, equipment, etc, we taxpayers are already paying for it. Who do you think pay for the RCMP equipment used in HRM? We do , the HRM taxpayer, it’s all calculated and included as part of the policing contract.
And for some who talk about HRP strikes – they are not allowed. that was settled years ago.
I’m far more comfortable knowing there are RCMP officers out there with better and more intense training than any local detachment. they should take this notion and shove it right back up there self righteous asses. to expand the hrm police force would be an expensive task which would need to dedicate more capital resources to get their offices in place of RCMP detachments.

RCMP is rife with “secret bullshit” going on in they’re force . True . Lots of shit happenning in the ranks just coming to light with whisleblowers giving up the bullshit . As much as I think cops are just a glorified “gang” that thinks it can do what it wants above the law , which they do .I do and would rather get pulled over or have to deal with a mountie then a ” city ” cop .
I haven’t really had no trouble with the hrm police . My dealings with them have been fair and never had caught a beating or much bullshit off them . But yea – they need them both in the HRM with the large area of outlaying towns and villages .
Because of the jump in hiring for the RCMP, just about anybody can apply, whereas it used to be quite selective. But given that about 70% of their workforce is ready to retire or should have retired 10 years ago, a sudden influx of youth and lack of leadership creates the problems we have today. If you really want anything to blame for the Mounties being who they are today? Blame the hiring freeze in the 90’s, if you ask me. That and Taser International, along with the over-reliance on the Taser.
That said, I trust the RCMP more than I do the HRP. I’ve had minuscule relations with both sides, and I can say that the RCMP were better to deal with and far more efficient.

Cops or RCMP (which are…..cops) have the same training, there’s no special super secret training received by the RCMP that regular police trainers don’t know about.
IF the choice comes between choosing a brown egg for breafast or a white egg for breakfast, & the Brown eggs are cheaper . I’m going for brown eggs.

Oh yea about cops and tazers . I’ve come to the conclusion that cops have tazers because ( no offence ) they hire women for beats and the men are small . What ever happened to the 6 foot height and 200 lbs requirement
Remember before the restrictions where lifted ? Them big ol boys needed no tazer . They would outrun you in a second . The would wade into a huge fight and grab people and knock you around and drag you off . They needed no tazers . They were big tough boys noone really wanted to fuck with . .
I mean come on , really ( no offence again ) but some little chick coming up to grab a big guy? No shit they need a tazer . No shit people likely in some instance wouldn’t think twice about tossing that chick across the street while making they’re get away . Oh well ….

It seems all cops are painted with one brush but I dare any of you to get to know a city cop then get to know a Mountie. You’ll find each entered the force because their personalities suited the work AND they wanted to make a difference. Each will tell you after a while that cooperation gets the job done no matter who gets “credit for the arrest”. Then they’ll tell you some cops are “more equal” than others and many other pig-oriented references. Ultimately they’ll each tell a story of ego’s resisting cooperation. Police forces DO NOT play well with one another. In Canada, when the RCMP has their nose in city cop or native cop business this serves as oversight and in an important way… sorta like how the competition forces your business to maintain a certain level of service. Without competition what happens to service?
I’m more than happy to keep our city cops vs. the feds… don’t need no steenkin feds round here…

Do i need to point out the 18 cops they tossed out the edmonton police force. Or the 20 some odd kicked out the toronto police force and other city forces? Oh just for things like taking bribes from criminals – jacking dealers and stealing dope and selling it . That is a factor, but I think people have less respect for police now and are more willing to fight cops. More people also seem to be on crack and PCP and shit and think they are superman and will fight cops.
And cops today don’t want to crack any heads because somebody is probably filming it and put it on youtube, so it’s easier and simpler to have a quick jolt.
Finally, like you said, when they opened the floodgates to little men and little women, the bigger stronger members had less confidence they would get support from them in a fight, and so just grab the taser.

hog, along with all those municipal officers and a few MPs, there have also been a fair number of RCMP officers charged with various offences, including here in Halifax/NS.

Not saying all cops have the ” gang mentality ” , but anyone with half a brain knows alot of them do . They have the gang ” don’t rat on eachother ” protocols like a regular gang would . Alot of cops are awesome , i have cops in the family in the rcmp and one city . They do their jobs like most people do and do it well . Its a shitty job . I fuckin wouldn’t want it . But lately there has been so many cops charged with shit its getting annoying to have to deal with one that has attitude when your just doing your thing .
Also funny when one cops deals with you for 10 minutes ( lets say argue ) and suddenly he has about 4 witnesses ( other cops ) that weren’t there in the beginning , now saying your wrong . Thats the shit i hate . Thats pure ass lying .
I had an incident once during my younger years concerning a fight one cop saw . But when it came to court – there was 3 other cops that saw it . Funny thing when the lawyer noticed the notebooks had times written wrong and one actually crossed out and another time written in . Now i am not saying i wasn’t fighting I was . Just wasn’t right for the others to be lying and saying they saqw me at X when they were at Y at said time . All that lying from them caused them they’re loss of a perfectly good charge on me .
When I lived in buttfuck, NS (somewhere in the valley just outside ‘vegas), my town along with Windsor and wolfvegas went RCMP and I’ve actually heard nothing but good things. Granted, one of our town police officers shot himself in the foot (literally) at the shooting range once…but I haven’t heard any complaints. Thing is though, all the town police officers ended up becoming RCMP. So, if Hfx went RCMP, for example, and HRP force was disbanded their officers would probably end up being RCMP anyway and we’d still have the same bunch of clowns.
I haven’t had any major problems with HRP, but….there’s just something about them that reminds me of the simpsons….
