I’m expecting to get bitched at on here so I thought I’d apologize to the asian girl sitting next to me at the laundry mat the other day. I was listening to stand up comedy on my ipod and thought it was weird just sitting there laughing to myself so I took out my book […]

Apology to Corporate Research Associates Inc. and Don Mills
A recent blog post, written by Tim Bousquet and published at thecoast.ca May 26, was unfair to local polling company Corporate Research Associates and its president, Don Mills. The bulk of the blog post repeated excerpts from a press release from the citizens’ group Save the View. That press release claimed that a CRA poll […]
Black firefighters enraged
[image-1] Management at the Halifax Fire Department has again failed to properly address racist behaviour, say black firefighters. Still nothing. Here’s […]

A series of human rights complaints and questionable management decisions has plagued the Halifax fire department. Last week we detailed allegations by black firefighters of institutional racism in the city’s Fire and Emergency Services Department (see “Fired up,” April 7, link below). This week, a woman firefighter goes public to say that she too is […]
Black firefighters file human rights complaint
When word leaked out this week that a group of black firefighters had filed a complaint against the Halifax fire department with the Human Rights Commission, fire chief Bill Mosher tried to frame the issue as an overreaction by two unduly sensitive employees. “We had met with [black firefighters] and came up with an action […]
