To the editor,

Regarding “Planning for the worst,” by Jess McDiarmid and “The young and the restless,” by Mike Landry (August 23), I have never read such a negative depiction of the place I call home. There are opportunities and programs for youth here.

These articles were also riddled with misinformation: the claim that the Dartmouth North Community Centre is run by the municipality, for example. I serve as chair of the board of directors for the DNCC, which is run by a community board. Also, the DNCC and the Dartmouth Boys and Girls Club do have a partnership and partner to bring many programs to the youth in Dartmouth North. Perhaps your journalists should have spoken to someone at the DNCC.

I understand that there are many problems in Dartmouth North and, as a member of this community, I will continue to strive to solve these problems by building on our assets in this community—and believe me, there are many assets in Dartmouth North. I hope in the future you will send journalists to Dartmouth North to report on the good news that happens here.
