To the editor,
It is time to scrap the Young Offenders Act. Seriously. Yes, there is a strong argument to keep it intact, but I believe that with the increasing frequency of crimes being performed by children—such as assault, attempted murder, grand theft auto, to name a few of the recent events—we cannot let these crimes go unpunished. I understand it will take a great deal of resources and time to update the system, but how can we let these crimes be tried under a system that was meant for much less severe crimes? Swarmings, random violence, gang violence and a complete disrespect for other people need to stop. Let’s do something about this.
