We’ve discovered a new German inspired coffee shop will be opening at 5599 Fenwick. Ray’s Haus European Café and Bistro will open its doors sometime within the next two weeks.
Owners Evan MacEachern and Ray Sharpe decided to open because, “You can’t get a good cup of coffee in Halifax,” says MacEachern. With that in mind, you should expect nothing less than the most delicious coffee.
It boasts a cozy, home-like atmosphere, with warm colours and soft music.
As well, Ray’s Haus has a deli that with nitrate free meat and organic foods. You can also buy goodies, baked fresh daily.

Can’t get a good cup of coffee in Halifax? What does the Smiling Goat, Trident, Java Blend, Just Us and Steve-O-Reno’s serve then?
“You can’t get a good cup of coffee in Halifax”, you will be eating your words boy. Obviously someone hasn’t done their research.
Ya, that’s a bit of an asshole quote. I know I find it pretty easy to find a good cup of coffee. Have you ever been to Moncton?? Why don’t you open your cafe there – they could use a cafe that serves decent coffee.
/being bitchy.
Good luck on the new shop.
The smiling goat i give them good credit, but beyond that try and find a truly European Cappuccino in this city is extremely difficult!
Hey smoothack – try Java Blend on North Street – best I’ve had in North America.
“haus”? I assume there is draft Pilsner there? And a great selection of Riesling? 😉
Since the opening (today) I have personally been into the new cafe, and can more then greatly say, that this is going to be one hot spot! Wish you Guys luck!
Also; The staff that are on hand are an awesome team!
I would recommend this place to anyone!
Good PR doesnt diss the competition There are a lot of good coffee spots in Hali… Maybe need a new PR person…..
Loving Ray’s Haus.. have been there a couple of times now.. great coffee, great food…. atmosphere is comfy and cozy 🙂
I’m not sure why they decided to go in slinging at coffee shops in Halifax… as many others have posted, there are some fine cups in this city… and tragically, Ray’s is NOT one of them.
“Ray”, I hope your words taste better than your coffee; you’re eating them pretty hard. All the coffees there are flavoured, even if they tell you they’re not. They all taste like something you’d get at the grocery store with a flavoured extract added.
Good coffee doesn’t need flavour to mask anything. It’s the closest place for me and I still won’t be going back.
I am not quite sure, where this comes into slinging coffee shops in the halifax area, under no circumstances does it say “we have the best coffee”
all their coffee’s are flavored? yes, because the saigon special dark is SOOO flavored, just like the KONA supreme blend, the kenya AA, the colombia bucaramenga supremo, kodiac, or their copenhagen breakfast.
The traditional european dishes that they serve are beyond exquisite, maybe you should give them a try.
I have to say – this place is so bad! there isn’t even a proper menu on the wall. I tried to give it the benifit of the doubt, maybe they are still setting up the place. But honnestly, I had the worst brownie ever, I actually threw it out. And the coffee was cold. They say they make all their baking in house, but it tasted quite manufactured. Overall, the whole place seemed very disorganized and the food is bad. The music was good, but that is not enough to keep me as a customer.
Yo smoothack, talking the place up like a satisfied customer when you’re actually one of the “owners” is a pretty moronic and stupid thing to do. Did you learn that “technique” at “design school”? LOL!
