RIP for now

The never boring, always creepy (in a good way) source for clothing and cool things, Fashionably Dead (5239 Blowers Street) has closed after five years of bringing its unique charm to downtown. But, wait. Before jumping onto the “downtown is the worst, save yourselves!” bandwagon, read what Kate Rankin has to say about the next step she and co-owner Aaron Adams are taking. “For us, business downtown has remained consistent. Our customers stuck with us through construction, slim parking, bus strikes and a terrible economy. We’ve loved being part of downtown and getting to work with so many other small businesses,” says Rankin. “The face of our block definitely changed, but there are really great new places that have also popped up and we hope to keep seeing that happen. We’re both really excited to get to enjoy downtown as customers again more often now.”

So yeah, don’t blame the downtown. The closure of the shop actually gives Rankin and Adams a chance to take a break and re-focus on online shopping for now. Fashionably Dead’s website will re-launch, ready for shopping, in mid-April…don’t worry dedicated shoppers. The pair haven’t ruled out re-opening eventually—Rankin says they’re keeping their eyes peeled for new spaces—but for now you’ll have to say hello at via the web.
