Joining in the relief efforts for Haiti are a number of local businesses. The Hart & Thistle ( Historic Properties, 1869 Upper Water Street, 407-4278) are giving all proceeds from this Thursday’s Trivia Night (January 21, $10 per participant, with additional donations welcomed) toward Haiti relief. The Loop (1547 Barrington Street, 429-5667) is having a Stash Sale for Haiti on Saturday, January 23 and Sunday, January 24, with funds going towards The Red Cross. (Visit theloophalifax.ca for more information.) Dawn Baker, owner of the Hydrostone market’s Chrysalis Spa & Skin Care (5521 Young Street, 446-3929) is challenging owners of other Halifax day spas to match her Haiti efforts: “I am donating the proceeds of the days service sales on Sunday, January 31st to the Canadian Red Cross. We will be open from 9am-4pm and our goal is to raise $3000 for the day.” FRED. beauty food art (2606 Agricola Street, 423-5400) is donating profits from art sales to agencies providing aid in Haiti. Inquire at the north end café/gallery/salon for more information. Just Us! (1678 Barrington Street and 5896 Spring Garden Road, 423-0856) is accepting cash donations (and clothes/blankets/bottled water) which we are sending to Haiti by way of the Salutary Angels. (Please make your donations at the Spring Garden location.) And Foot Solutions (287 Lacewood Drive, 405-3668) is asking on behalf of Soles4Souls, an international shoe charity, for your gently used shoes to donate to those in need in Haiti. Bring them to the Foot Solutions location in Clayton Park. And let us know at thecoast.ca/blogs/shoptalk if you know a business doing good work for Haiti.

  1. Buy a raffle ticket on a locally-made craft at the Halifax Farmers’ Market. 100% of the proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders (MĂ©decins Sans Frontières) Haiti Relief. Look for the table with the brightly-colored rugs and scarves at the market Saturday 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.. The signs will say “100% for Haiti” “Raffle,” etc. Thanks.

  2. A coffee house-style fundraiser called Halifax to Haiti is being held in the gym of the Saint Andrew’s United Church (6036 Coburg Road, Halifax) on Saturday, February 6th, from 7pm – 10pm.
Admission is $10 at the door, per person, and there will be coffee/hot chocolate, baked goods for sale and great live music!
ALL proceeds will be going towards Free the Children’s Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.

  3. I just pulled this clip for the NY Times in terms of what restaurants are doing there for Haiti, can this be done here too??

    Here it is:
Eating for Haiti Relief There’s still a lot you can do to contribute to the Haiti relief effort. Start with the telethon on Friday night, which will feature performances by just about every pop star on the planet, and on Sunday or Monday make plans to visit one of New York’s top restaurants, which are participating in Dine Out for Haiti. The Modern, Fatty Crab, Babbo, ilili and the Waverly Inn are among those on a long list of restaurants that will donate up to 10 percent of sales to charities. Bring a big appetite, proceeds will be distributed to Action Against Hunger, Doctors Without Borders and Partners in Health.
