This article is SO important (“Michelle Coffin is reclaiming her story,” cover story by Maggie Rahr, June 1). I’m so proud of professor Coffin for being so open and honest. I continue to look up to her. #nspoli —Julia Kenney, @juliakenney via Twitter
Thank you, Michelle, for your courage to speak out and your strength. It will help others. —Rona Ambrose via Facebook
Good for you Michelle! Excellent piece Maggie! As a woman who dealt with sexual harassment at the CBC—who watched as this person went on to abuse again and then received a job with the provincial government even though the case had gone public the second time—I am infuriated by how little has changed over the years. We are supposed to wonder how long the perpetrators should have to pay. Consider this, the victims almost always pay a higher price. —posted by Noreen Nunn
Please read this story. It took a lot of courage to share. We need to recognize what Michelle Coffin is saying about #domesticviolence. —Ramona Jennex, @RamonaJennex
My ex punched me for the first time as we were being driven to our wedding reception. He said he was happy to own someone he could punch. —Margaret Harris Ratcliffe via Facebook
I can’t believe that the Nova Scotia Liberals had the nerve to hire the scumbag who beat her. —Beverley Sheppard via Facebook
How I wish this had come out strongly before the election. Perhaps we wouldn’t have a Liberal government again. —Suseia Gordon via Facebook
This is not a Liberal issue, this is a societal issue. The “victim” (I hate that word) has to prove over and over what happened to them, while the perp can show remorse and be given “another chance” oh so easily. When the outer scars are healed the journey is so much longer and harder for the survivor…and triggers like the perp going back to excelling in their career would be a definite setback in healing. My shoulders roll back, and my chin lifts as I read this story. —Tara Williams via Facebook
A gripping & beautifully written article by @MaggieRahr about such a dark subject is an important reminder of why we need The Coast et al. —Trevor Parsons, @DartmouthCommon
This article is disgusting. To use this woman as a political tool is wrong. I know Labi Kousoulis personally and he is an advocate for women’s rights and against violence against women. To slander him is horrible. To create a sensationalized article to promote your own support for the NDP is wrong. —posted by L.H.
Not only were the Liberals’ actions a betrayal of Ms. Coffin and of the women of Nova Scotia, it also strikes me as a serious betrayal of their own MLA Lena Diab, who has gone through her own personal experiences of domestic assault. —posted by Tom Callum Fraser

L.H. hit the nail right on the head. The Coast should be ashamed of itself, but it lost the capacity to feel shame long ago.
