On Sunday the Bluenose Marathon organizers used the north-east quadrant of the Commons as an entertainment venue. Today mud ruts gouge the entire area. Large tracts of grass have been compacted or torn up. It is a disgraceful, unsightly mess. Even partial restoration will be expensive.
The promised Commons rejuvenation after last fall’s Rolling Stones’ concert has not been a complete success. If the city condones its further destruction this past weekend, the brown rutted Commons will stand as an ironic comment on our highly touted ecological enlightenment.
We have written to our councillor and the mayor to request that they do something to protect the Commons from future misuse.
